Absolutely. The game thread serves its purpose. The day after "game thoughts" threads are much more rational.

Also, somebody on here posted "we'll see what coaches make better adjustments at halftime."

NIU outscored Ball State 21-7 in the 2nd half.

B-b-but... I thought NIU was poorly coached. Maddawg said so.

There have been bad coaching decisions this year, no one can disagree with that. But obviously the coaching staff deserves credit for keeping this thing together after CMU. That game felt like a wheels off the wagon game, and a likely season-ender but it was not.

The bubble screen and jet sweep CAN be effective if they are used sporadically. I'm more of a fan of the high percentage short passes that will get you 5 to 10 yards. Of course, it helps when you have a QB who can get the ball to someone open and the receiver being able to actually catch it. And guess what? Sometimes you can be in position to actually get some YAC. Other teams have no trouble whatsoever doing it to us.

I do like an occasional jet sweep when Tommy Lee is healthy. I do agree that you need to use it sparingly and only if you have great speed.

Turner has the speed and it worked for a TD last night. Look forward to seeing him get the ball more.

I still say he or Huff or Beebe are gonna return a kick/punt before the season is over.

It's been strange how uneffective the jet sweep has been this year. I don't think Turner or Saffold are noticeably slower than Tommy, but it just hasn't worked very well.

Saffold: 8 carries, 27 yards
Turner: 8 carries, 18 yards

When your QB isn't Jordan Lynch...the D can stay outside just a little bit longer.

That's not a knock on any of our QB's (in this case), but Lynch was a freak back there and kept everyone home just a second longer.

Gotta disagree with you here. This offense is built on running the ball. The screens are just ways of getting the ball or to the edge faster to take advantage of matchups or numbers.

Last year we had that option run/pass KILLED Toledo with it. It was the play Gruden question Lynch about..."You guys run some crazy stuff".... Have not seen that play. It may be a lot harder to execute than Lynch made it out to be. BTW, saw a clip on smart football and Aaron Rodgers ran this play and the analyst was crazy positive about it.

Yep, this offense is built around all those options. That's why I don't understand most of the questions on play-calling...sure, there's always a few you could question...but this offense is built off of reading the defense and choosing the right option either before the play or right after the snap.

Ball State essentially handed NIU 14 points tonight. Let's start with the kickoff after NIU's first TD.....

NIU is not getting the most out of their talent, the very definition of "not being coached right". This game should have been smooth sailing after it was 14-0 so early.

*Pick a QB, stop messing with the rhythm of the team
*FEED STINGILY
*Stop with the predictable "Jet Sweep" and similar BS
*Learn how to manage a clock (more of a minor concern for this team IMO, but a concern none the less)

"Handed NIU 14 points tonight". Just imagine how many points we could score if the coaches emphasized the importance of turnovers instead of doing whatever you think they do.

"This game should have been smooth sailing after it was 14-0 so early". Yeah, how dare those Cardinals just fight back from that. Didn't they know it was hopeless with 55 minutes still to play?

Jesus. Looks like another sabbatical from this board. Later.
Really? 03-lmfao03-lmfao

You're that sensitive about this stuff?
