Get the access bowl and get stomped, or miss it
I'm curious what some would think.

The AAC is down this year (though at least we still have some good wins against BYU + the P5, unlike some other conferences)

My question is, would you rather miss out on the access bowl knowing the AAC likely wouldn't perform well, or miss out this year and wait for the opportunity to put our best foot forward (probably next year)?

I don't think we would get killed, there are some over-hyped Big 10 teams I think ECU could hang with. If ECU played Ohio St. I think it would be a good game, if they had to play a SEC or Big 12 school that missed out on the play-offs I think they would get destroyed.

I'm not so optimistic about this conferences chances this year. Unfortunately, this conference has shown it can play down to anyone. When playing a team with vastly more resources then you have, you should never play down at any point.

I'd rather wait for a team with the, "Seek and Destroy" attitude. 04-cheers

The way I see it, we should expect a top 15 team against us. I realize tOSU is conveniently placed at 16, but that was coincidental.

Ask yourself, which top 15 team could anyone in this conference beat?

I'm surprised that we are in agreement 04-cheers

I really believe that anyone who pays attention to teams outside the P5 will begin to think within the scope of the G5.

Since the teams are so clearly split (almost as FCS and FBS are) it won't be a matter of "oh it's just another G5 team" it's "this conference is perennially the best G5 conference"

I think when we win the selection, it's more important to win it than to just get it. The selection will be the face of the conference and a representative of the entire body of work of the season. No one's going to care that we got the slot and lost it.

Im assuming we are talking about ECU since I don't think any other team has a shot at getting the access bowl,
So for ECU, Arizona St. #11 (got murdered by UCLA,) Ohio St. is #13 in the new AP pool and i think ECU could hang with them. Possibly Notre Dame #8, they have had some shaky games all year. If ECU had to play a Big 12 school (OU, Baylor, TCU) or SEC school (Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU) they would get destroyed.

You're correct. Do not forget that the powers that be will use any and all opportunities to state how the access slot is wasted on the G5 and how it should be exclusively for the Paid5.

If we send a representative, they had better win. A loss will be turned against us as often as possible. Look at last year, UCF beat Baylor hands down but what did the pundits say? Oh, Baylor wasn't up for the game. Baylor's kids felt this game was a let down and didn't give any effort. It was BS but, they said it anyway. Few actually gave UCF the credit it was do.

Make no mistake, we are on the outside trying to get in and it's storming out here. We have to break that door down with pure force. We must force those in charge to take note of us and to do that we have to get the fans of other conferences talking about this conference, not just one or two teams. They need to know who we all are and give us props. Our representative (Whomever that be), must not lose. 03-phew

It will be very interesting to see how the new system impacts G5 conference realignment. Is it an advantage to be a program like Ga Southern in the Sun Belt where you can steamroll through the conference and win the G5 bowl spot?

If a program like Ga Southern was on a roll and won the G5 spot a couple of times, would the other conferences allow the Sun Belt to rake in the money and notoriety, or would CUSA and or the AAC offer the school an invite.

Certainly TV markets being the only factor is no longer the case in the new system.

Rather see Georgia Southern or any unbeaten G-5 Champ in the Access Bowl than any one loss G-5 Champ getting the Bid! But MONEY drives Conference Realignment. Only remote possibility for any G-5 school to move anywhere depends on the B-12 getting left out of the Playoffs, with their 10 team conference.

I said a few weeks ago that I wouldn't want UCF to play in the access bowl because I know we aren't ready for it this year. I wouldn't want to go if it meant getting embarrassed.

After yesterday? I am beginning to think ECU is just an average team that has beaten some very lousy teams. We will see if they can bounce back. I am not overly optimistic at this point. Temple's offense was god awful and we still lost. That does not say much for ECU.

The answer is obvious. The money and exposure is more important than getting curb stomped.
