Nice article.
I remember when there was a local Kalamazoo newspaper & sportswriters producing articles like the above from ESPN. Currently m-live hardly knows or cares Kalamazoo & WMU exists.

Boycott all MLive/Gazette sponsors.

Who needs turdville when we're getting elite national coverage?

Thanks for posting Hiller. Has ESPN ever run an article solely on a WMU QB? Gotta admire the kid. A Cubit recruit (who had an excellent eye for QBs) who was able to make the transition to the staff and offense we have now. WMU is fortunate to have him.

RE: Zach Terrell
I briefly spoke with Zach after the bowl game in Boise a couple years ago. He was extremely gracious, walking around the hotel thanking all the fans for making the trip out to support the team. I fully believe everything anyone says about him being a great person.

Great article, thanks for posting.

This is true. MLive has very much surrounded itself with clickbait turds... and they're rowing straight to newspaper Turdville.

Quote:If Terrell and Western Michigan get their fairytale ending, perhaps that view from the seats could become commonplace for his loved ones by next fall.

S&P+ from what I read puts us at a roughly 50% (48.x%) chance to have that fairytale. I can only hope, but I fear the MACtion upon us.

Very glad Fleck got to coach him - meaning that he has a stud offensive line and a running game that puts him in great situations. Cubit would have had this kid broken in half by now with pass happy P**@y ball with defenses teeing off on the QB.

Not necessarily. Cubit offenses were pass heavy some seasons, but he balanced it out pretty well as his career went on. His last year, 2012 the offensive play calling was 45.9% run and 54.1% pass. 2011 play calling was 41.4% run and 58.6% pass.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with where the program is at and the year we are having. That said, Zach was a Cubit recruit and he would have done just fine in his system. Just would not be quarterback of a 10-0 nationally ranked team.

...and (in my opinion) he would have a torn ACL, broken leg, etc (see Cubit Jr., Hiller, etc who were all injured)

Yeah, but Carder got injured. He'd mix in the run, don't get me wrong, but if you stopped the pass, you stopped us. If you stopped our run but not so much our pass, we were 100% comfortable passing on every play under Cubit. Under Cubit, we wouldn't have a great running game to work off of right now. And I think that's the key why we were a very pass happy O. So it puts the QB more prone to get dinged than having a team with a great running game like we do.

That's a lot less passing, and my guess our yards per carry are up and I KNOW our rushing yards per game are way up. Puts Terrell in a very good position, including health

Stats don't lie Todd. I pointed out the stats that showed less than 60% pass the last two years of his tenure. I think he went more to the run then because he had some successful running backs those years.

Anyway, doesn't matter now.
