MT re-opens Murphy Center with #MurphyMadness
Highlights of the event:
  • Around 4,000 fans were in attendance
  • Both teams were introduced
  • Teams put on fun shows, including scrimmage
  • MT announces deal with Nike for 5 years
  • Murphy Center renovations complete, ~$13m worth
  • Showcase of new facilities and super cool lighting system

It was a success for the first time. Sounds like it was a phenomenally fun event, and I think our basketball programs are getting more involved - which will help get fans out. 4k for #MurphyMadness would've been unheard of a few short years ago. Hope other schools have similar results for their season opening festivities. Go Big Blue and Go CUSA!

MT fans, please feel free to post pics and recollections from the event. I had fun just following it on Twitter/Instagram, I'm sure it was very exciting to be there.

It was GREAT! Hard to get a gauge on the new teams as the scrimmage was co-ed (3 guys/2 girls) and the guys dominated most of the show. Perrin Buford even swatted a shot by PG Caroline Warden! I was waiting for a smile when he did it, but never saw one :) It was fun. Our guys are very athletic, but we are a young team without a lot of size. The renovations to The Murph were great. Love the new lights and it just looks SO much bigger in there with the waffles gone from the ceiling

Nice crowd!

I'm not sure how well MT will do this year, but I do think you guys are set up pretty well for the future. I forget his name now, but that PG you guys got that originally committed to Houston will be a good one. I was disappointed when he chose Houston because we were recruiting him pretty hard.

I like your court too. Is the design new?

D.J. Jones? I remember that story but I forget who it was.

The design is the same as last year, I think, but the lighting makes it look much better.

Nah I think his name was JaQuel Richmond or something like that. He was a 4 star I think until he committed to Houston.

You got it! That's him. 6'1" freshman from Greensboro. Hope he makes a good impact. Sounds like a star in the making... 04-rock

Richmond could start at PG for us.

DJ Jones is the 5-8 (listed at 5-10) guy dunking in the video above.

Here he is in high school (Chicago)
