you are dead wrong on that one....severity of sprains vary....I've had them all....from the 2-dayer to the high ankle 4 week version....
Monk hates losing to anyone and you know Mullens didn't want to sit...
I will agree if he was iffy, he wasn't going to risk his season with us playing utep after weeks performance last week.....weeks just let go of the rope last night....Monk knows what he has in the stable and if you want to call that sandbagging, I think it was the smart decision.
Lastly, Monk would never 'settle'...it's not in his makeup....
Players do miss time for ankle sprains. Ricky Williams used to miss time for ankle sprains when he was with the Saints, and I never thought he was doggin' it or anything like that.
There are lots of ways that coaches can favor the short term or the long term. If Monken says, "I don't want to risk screwing up this man's ankle over the 2014 UTEP game" (or whatever game we're talking about), I don't have a problem with that.

It's probable that Cole Weeks will be the starting QB for USM this week because of an injury to the starting QB and what does the head coach do during Southern Miss Sports Today? He basically says he doesn't have the ability to play at this level but hey, we can win some games with him.
This, as well as forgetting the name of the player you've just recruited during signing day (out of your back yard) irks me. It irks me to a level that I have a hard time believing Todd Monken should be a head coach. You do not need to say everything that comes into your head. When you're trying to build up a kid who is likely going to start at QB for you, don't tell the world that he isn't starter material. Don't make him doubt himself before he even has a chance to prove himself. Oh, and guess what? This kid threw for 338 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT's in relief and without preparation against La Tech.
Unfortunately, Monken's motivational style is much more like Pappy Buttermilk than LFed.

Lots of coaches do/have done that.
Bear Bryant was always moaning about how his guys were going to underperform in some way....and they were always better than what he said.
Lou Holtz is another good example.
Pop Warner and Gil Dobie used the same tactic.

I think you will see Mullens for the last 2 games.

If its a high ankle sprain, those things can be worse than a break. Sorry to hear that about Mullins. Although we have had a history of making backup QB's look like Dan Marino when they play us. Hopefully its not tomorrow.
Looks like the USM D line will cause us some trouble.

Monken will be fine. Gotta give him more time after the Fedora and Johnson recruiting debacles.

28 isn't enough....we get crushed if mullens is out...
it can't be a high ankle sprain.....he's done for the season if that's the case.....I trust thegoldstandard regarding his post.....and I hope he's wrong in the same vein of 2 games since we have 3 left.....we're toast if mullens doesn't play.....yep, gonna have ride and pause on 4th street today.....
