Recruiting the backyard- Is it possible to keep the best recruits?
I always thought it would be nice if some of the schools from CUSA could take recruits that might go to the C7, but then I thought about how many local recruits those schools get. It also dawned on me that each school (sans ECU) is in a metro full of talent for both football and basketball. Luckily, Eastern NC is choc full of talent (Todd Gurley and Montrezl Harrell are the first that immediately come to mind- not that we offered them or they would've played for ECU).

I question if there's anything the AAC can do to pluck more of the highly rated recruits out of our own backyards? A media barrage of billboards and commercials? Hosting events with ESPN or something like that? I don't know. I know winning cures all (SMU), but it's probably also nice to know you're playing for a school where the fans really rally behind the team and get up for conference opponents.

Or should every team just spend a lot of money on good coaches? Thoughts?

PS- It seems like we (ECU) keep inching closer and closer to taking the big recruits away from big time schools. We're going down to the wire for football recruits against some schools like Ohio State, South Carolina, etc. We're even down to the wire against UNC for a basketball player. I'm sure other schools see this as well. How do we seal the deal? Will our schools ever seal the deal? In football? What about the lower level basketball schools?

PPS-We've had recruits with C7 offers in both classes since being invited to the American, suck it basketball only schools. 02-13-banana

In regards to SMU under Larry Brown, remember, his first year at SMU (2012-2013) , he finished 2nd to last with a 5-11 conf record.

Last year, SMU improved to a tie for 3rd with a 12-6 conf record.

Hoop Coaches in AAC have a much better chance at recruiting top players locally and/or nationally than AAC Football Coaches...as the negative P5 Football recruiting (and $$$/exposure, etc...) is hard to top.

For hoops they should be able to because we have a legit conference. You can see that with what dj has been doing. Football we have been going to ga because Florida is a focus for many schools and the big boys tend to play here. We also have more connections in ga because of the staff. That being said fl is coming around but we lost a lot of connections due to the Plancher case and Kelly leaving.

Hmm...what if your backyard is barren? IDK, Memphis has benefited from fertile bball grounds while losing out on fball contests. BUT, recruiting seems to have picked up recently. Granted, I don't understand recruiting/transfers, but the Tiger's staff seems to target out of area talent/MS talent..which isn't THAT out of area. BTW and neither here nor there, but I met a Tiger commit this summer from Starksville, QB IIRC,...seems like a good kid.
