RE: First CFB Playoff Poll is out
This is so dumb for many reasons, but just one would be that 1,3 and 4 are going to cancel each other out in some way. Two of them will be gone because they are ALL from the SEC West. Just dumb imop.
CAN'T be a projection of what they think it would be, only who they think is the best so far.
Which when you consider those 3 being on each others schedule, and the outcomes either way... makes this whole thing for now a big waste of time.

I hope they wind up with about 9 1 loss teams and Marshall stays undefeated.

4 teams never was enough. Go to 8 (ideally 16) and be done with it.
Every conference should be represented.

Marshall doesn't get in ahead of any 1 loss P5 champ.

the playoff selection is completely independent of other polls. They can easily put in a team or two not in the top 5 coaches/ap polls in the playoffs. who knows how they think. they could still put in 2 teams from the sec west.

A G5 won't make it in period. Not in a 4 team playoff.

Also for those of you who don't live in CUSA fantasy land, as always, no Sun Belt team is ranked in this or any other poll. The Sun Belt's record of never having a team make the Top 25 in any poll is secure again this year. Though Marshall may need some key losses by a few teams to make the access bowl, the possibility does exist that CUSA will will have one of its members earn the spot. The SBC was eliminated by week two. When the SBC gets a team ranked for once, then we can talk about CUSA fantasy land.

While LA Tech's poll appearances have been very impressive http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/..._polls.php

Let's get back on track.

The SEC is crowing today, but could find itself as a one bid league very easily at seasons end. There is a possibility that all SEC programs could have two losses and have to watch an FSU, ND, Oregon, TCU playoff. That would be my ideal situation, not because I dislike the SEC, but because it would drive expansion to 6 or 8 teams in the playoffs very quickly.

I disagree. Nothing will drive expansion faster than having the SEC dominate the "playoff" selections. If the SEC gets 2 (or even 3) teams in the playoffs, the other conferences will do whatever it takes to get their teams included.

Tech was actually ranked for multiple weeks just two years ago so I don't think any sunbelt members should be talking about them...

True but ESPN will beat this to death if the SEC isn't included.

This. We have a playoff because of one thing: the Alabama vs LSU BCS National Championship Game. The Big 10 hasn't been good enough to make the game in a while, so they voted on the 4-team playoff "with emphasis on conference champs" to try and get around SEC dominance.

If there is one thing this ranking tells us, is that SOS is the most important factor. The SEC champ will be in even with two losses.

Yep, and now it will be much much harder for a G5 to break into that top 4 now because of the SOS factor. Weighing SOS so heavily will keep G5 out of the playoffs. It will have to take a G5 to knock off 2 really good P5's to get a look.

That was the big knock against Boise, their conference was crap and didn't play anyone.
