Looking over things if Marshall gets the access bowl conference USA would have just enough teams to fill their other five bowls spots this would pretty much guarantee the American a spot in the Independence.

It amazes me how many people are into obscure bowls. After the top 4 playoff and access bowl they don't do much for me.

Yep...how about:

ECU - Military
UCF - St Pete
Houston - Armed Forces
Cincy - Birmingham
Temple - Miami Beach
Memphis - Independence

The conference and bowl partners will work together with ESPN to make sure tix are sold and matchups are good. While some of you are more concerned with seats filled, ESPN wants eyeballs and ratings so Temple brings Philly market. In 09, we brought 20k to DC and also grabbed the highest rated bowl game watched in Philly in 5 years.

ECU could be going to Miami Beach over the Military Bowl. I think that BYU and ESPN would be happiest with BYU vs ECU, and I don't see a strong argument against it.

ECU to Annapolis...4.5 hours to face an ACC team.
ECU to Miami Beach...12 hours to face BYU

I'd ask the ECU guys what they think. But I think they'd prefer Miami.

1. Ask your wife/girlfriend whether she'd rather do a 3-4 day trip to Annapolis or Miami Beach. And I suspect that East Carolina folks have been to DC often enough, just because it is a 4-5 hour drive. (Not to mention that Pirate NAtion was in the Military Bowl 4-5 years ago). And with Navy coming into the conference next year, the Annapolis road trip will always be there. (Yes, they're in the west.)

2. ECU plays ACC teams often enough that a 6-6 or 7-5 NC STate isn't as exciting, never mind a Pitt or a UVA or a rematch with VT or UNC. Winning that game is nice, but ECU fans are still talking smack to Boise STate fans about a Hawaii Bowl in 2007 or so. I think the same applies to BYU.

I refuse to spend my money on either blatant cash grab.

Got a feeling ESPN is going to want East Carolina BYU in Miami. I wouldn't mind the Independence bowl a lot of history with that one.

Wasn't my point. There's too many and we award mediocrity in this country.

Oh goodie, a political rant...go tell the voting booth on Tuesday, but lets keep it off the sports board.

Getting to a bowl game isn't as easy as some make it out to be. Talk to Memphis and Temple fans. I thoroughly enjoyed beating Ohio in St. Petersburg last December.

i think CUSA is the independence bowl back up...so both the SEC and ACC would have to not fill the bowl for us to get in.

No team has a 6 and 6 record at this point, so I have no idea what you are talking about. I expect Temple to win at least 2, if not 3 of their remaining games. If they have a plus turnover ratio, they'll beat Memphis (as they destroyed them last year unexpectedly, with a much less talented defense), beat Penn State or Cincy, and beat Tulane. That's at least 7 and 5, maybe 8 and 4.

You shouldn't be overconfident against Temple as a Memphis fan, nor should any Temple fan be overconfident against Memphis (or anyone else for that matter).
Expecting to beat Memphis off of last year is pretty ignorant of this year. Outstanding win yesterday but you only had 130 yards of total offense. If a team takes care of the ball, you guys are in trouble.

I think you misread my post. It's highlighted in bold above in the If/Then scenario.

I've had a blast in the last 5 bowl games that I have attended (in New Orleans, Mobile, Detroit and St. Pete). Whats more important, they are beneficial for my school and conference. If bowls such as the Birmingham and the Independence are good enough for "Entitled 5" programs, they should be good enough for us. Pride and attitude.....

Exactly... I don't know why he cares. Always complaining about cost in college sports, ECU games, concessions. He may or may not buy season tickets for whatever reason and always nominating himself for free tickets on ECU message board.

Cant afford cable for games(or sports package), cant afford rising cost, does not know ESPN announces the game 2 weeks out(even though it is noted every week on this board). Personally I believe the only thing he knows how to do is complain.

The way I rank them for ECU

1. Military 1pm Saturday- Close and have some good teams I would like to see ECU face. Pitt, UVA, NCSU
2. Birmingham 1pm Saturday- Play a decent opponent in good weather, not much else
3. Bitcoin 8pm Friday- Good time slot and day, climate control. Problems include horrible field, and maybe not have a P5 opponent
4.Miami Beach- Bad Date, Ok opponent, Bad Day, Bad Time slot, Good location and climate.
5. Armed Forces- Most likely always going to be a western member of the conference

So in a 5 team tie---which co-champs are going to get screwed into playing G5's in a crap bowl somewhere? That would kinda suck for someone.

Which ever one ESPN wants...

Yep your right, it would suck. I would nominate a team that has lost(OOC) to a G5 team earlier in the year for a chance at redemption.04-cheers

Bowl games are fun. I could care less is anyone outside of AAC fans enjoy our bowl games. They are an additional game and if you get the right one you get some extra money. Plus I just enjoy cheering for Memphis and conference mates! If it's not the access bowl or the playoff oh well. We can still enjoy some good football and cheer for our teams vs out of conference opponents.
