RE: Turmoil in AA
These past several years, during the RichRod regime and now Hoke, has been a gift to all of us who enjoy seeing UM humbled and embarrassed. All those years of hoping they'd get taken down a few notches has come to fruition. I do think Hoke is a good guy and I wish all this didn't happen to him, specifically, but it's been great watching the program flounder and have to cough up explanations for gaffes every week (the Coke-4-Tix deal, leaving Morris in the game, the stake, etc.).
Dantonio is a genius for making his program, now a few years running as a legit Top 10 team, still come across as victims playing with chips on their shoulders. I am a bit amused he brought up the "little brother" thing again last weekend. It works magic, but when Hart said that the current UM players were all in 7th and 8th grade and Hoke was just getting going at Ball State.

And will there come a time when the media doesn't attach the word "-gate" to every tiny controversy?

I agree with what you say Motown, but take a bit different perspective. At the beginning of the year I thought Hoke was a good guy, but now I'm not so sure. He has played dumb a bit too often this season. Your QB suffers a concussion, is staggering on the field, and no one on the sidelines realizes there is a problem? A player shoves a stake in the ground when the team comes out and after the game at the presser you say you don't know what happened? I can well imagine Hoke not seeing it happen, but he would have heard about it before he went to the podium after the game. I'm not buying his act anymore.
Dantonio was a great hire for MSU. I'm pleased to see them doing so well. There is talk in this thread that people are going to forget that UM was once a power house, because of the time lapse. The same is definitely true for MSU. In the 50's & 60's MSU won three national championships. I like to view Dantonio as bringing MSU back to national prominence.

In high school (Grandville) MSU was the model. Coach gave me a copy of "Michigan State Multiple Offense". Wing T trap blocking scheme basically. UM at the time was the little brother, in sort of an Ivy League mode running around with their funny uniforms and antique helmet. Bo and Don Morehead changed all of that of course.

Agree - especially for a coach who refuses to wear a headset on the sidelines. My first thought after hearing him say he knew nothing about the stake was, "What does he know?"

He's not prepared to answer that stuff. The game day concussion management was upsetting to me but the latter press conference was pathetic, totally poor response, he didn't know? Bull. That QB was out of it and defenseless. If I were the AD I'd have given him a week off to think about it. It is obvious that team has lost respect for him and are just going through the motions. It will take awhile to put that program back together. They'll need a Tommy Amaker type to make nice for awhile, and then a serious good coach to put things back together. Check back about 5 years from now.

Alabama did this with the Shula hire after the Dubose, Franchonie and Price debacles. Gave him a few years to play nice then went after the killer.

RE: Turmoil in AA
Really this turmoil is just the realization that UM isn't half the program that the fans think it is and what it should ne considering the resources available. No team in the country has done less with so much over the past couple decades. The last national championship was 20 years ago, the next one back is about another 40 years. Seriously when was the last time that team was relevant on a national level like the fans still believe it is?
