What an absolute BS penalty against FIU when they sacked Rice.

No points in the 3rd quarter. FIU starts the 4th quarter with the ball on a 3rd and 7. FIU going against the wind in the final quarter. That could be huge.

Good game Rice. You thoroughly outplayed us. You made our defense look as bad as anyone this year in the first half. Disappointing performance after a bye week.

5 in a row. Bailiff is the second best coach in conference behind ours.

Good game FIU...other than a couple bombs, this is the low scoring game everyone thought. Promising young qb

Fish- be interested in your view(s) on Rice vs. Marshall having seen both teams now.
I was really concerned about this game with FIU having bye week, road game, early kick, FIU having improved so much from last year, etc., etc.

Having seen Rice now. You remind me so much of FAU. I think FAUs defense is slightly faster and better in the secondary though.
I would expect a good showing from Rice. But in Huntington this season, as thats not fared well with texas teams or wv teams in texas, i think Marshall can stop your QB, in the 2nd half. 42-21

Here's my take:
It is very uncharacteristic for FIU's secondary to leave guys that open. Not just once, but multiple times. I think Rice's option gave FIU fits. It seemed play-action passes caused the LBs to bite every time. FIU's game plan against Marshall was more pass-oriented, and Marshall mainly beat us with the run and Devon Johnson.
Rice is a very smart football team. I'm not just saying that because it's Rice. They are very well disciplined and commit few penalties. They made outstanding adjustments in the 2nd half on defense. Rice's front 4 are beasts. They consistently got to our QB with just a four man rush. I do think Marshall has better athletes than Rice as a whole, but I think Rice would be able to use a season's worth of footage to create a heck of scheme to stop Marshall. Covington would be a key player in stopping Devon Johnson, but it looked like he had a serious injury. That loss hurts.
The biggest weakness on the Rice team, in my opinion, is your DBs. We had a few plays where Coleman et al. got past your DBs deep. It was too windy/QB issues did not allow this to happen consistently. In order to beat Marshall, you cannot give up the deep ball.
I think Rice can beat Marshall. If they do, I would not be surprised. But at this point, I think Marshall is about a 7-10 point favorite with Cato at the helm. Good luck the rest of the way, and again, great game today. I have a great amount of respect for the Rice program.

I was at the game; the fans are underneath the camaras (i.e. camaras face north and the home side is the south side)....though the students never showed up for the 12:00 start or the game.
