LO-FRICKING-L. CAN ANYONE IN THIS CONFERENCE HAVE ANY SUCCESS WITHOUT THINKING YOURE P5 MATERIAL

P5? I was thinking NFC East.

i wasn't even being a punk. i honestly just wondered where he was thinking.

unless there is an eventual cusa-sbc shakeup/merge i honest to god can't imagine their target. aac? nothing in their current or future resume would make them a remote possibility imo.

bigger than aac? really? i know those folks are delusional but this breaks new ground.

If we win BIG consistently on the national scene then other G5 conferences will make room for you similar to what we saw with Boise. As Boise became a national name, their tv value skyrocketed.

Just about everybody will say it is impossible for Ga Southern to become another Boise, but many Ga Southern fans honestly believe it can happen. Right now, some are ranking is in the top 5 of the G5 and we are basically a FCS program. With the tradition we have, support and talent in GA, it is a recipe for success.

Honestly, moving to CUSA wouldn't move the needle much as it is mostly a mishmash of teams that are looked at the same as the SBC from a national perspective. Crazy as it sounds now, the AAC would be possible if we can win big on a national scale.

Haven't read most of this but its unfortunate that some of our fans would take this moment to trash the Sun Belt. There's so many reasons why that makes no sense. Too many cup half empty folks on these boards. If Southern can keep up the good work the competitive level will without any doubt increase in the Sun Belt where I personally hope we stay with Georgia State, App State, and the rest of you for some time. G State played way better than many expected and is the beginnings of an amazing rivalry. Just get your own stadium with convenient tailgating. The rest will take care of itself.

itsmeagain, i think overall you have some pretty good points...clearly we do have a rivalry and it is good for both of us. We get a lot of media coverage playing you guys that we don't normally get. We get to play in Atlanta where we are trying to reconnect with some of our alumni base that has been less active than we would like. The game had an excellent attendance figure. Obviously it will count in State's attendance numbers and State's ticket sales were a good part of that number, but make no mistake though, the crowd yesterday was very much Southern's. That being said, it was still a number we haven't been able to do in Statesboro.

I forsee the GSU/GS rivalry going the way of App St/WCU. over time, it will matter much more to one school than the other...the team that rarely ever wins.

I don't see how the game did anything to validate Ga State's FBS status. They were severely outnumbered at home by a first year FBS program, had their typical 5k fans show up, and once again got beat to the point that you could see the defeat in their players eyes. The recruits in attendance either thought "I have a chance to play early if I go here" or "this team is awful, thus coaching staff is gonna be gone soon, and this fan support is embarrassing". The fans that stuck around were only there to get a voucher falling from the ceiling post game.

If that is how Ga States program is going to operate, I hope they fold up shop and stick to basketball because it's downright embarrassing to be associated with that.

What recruits saw was an offense that nobody seems to be able to stop despite playing 2nd and 3rd stringers on the OL. They also saw a defense that they can play in immediately. Someone also likely whispered in their ear that as good as Nick is, the kid with the clipboard and headphones may end up being better.

By the way, a great way to act like it's not a rivalry is to go on 4 paragraph soliloquys about how it's not, I didn't want it but it has been for a long time and it goes back pre-Internet. Acting like it isn't...well yeah that is hubris.

It shows that, given the right circumstances, even after having only won 4 games in the last 3 seasons, we can still have a good crowd show up. Imagine if we were heading into this game after a few wins. This was an FBS game with an FBS crowd and an FBS atmosphere. You may hate it (and i can tell you do, which is why i think it's funny that you guys are saying this isn't a rivalry, because you're still riled up even after winning the game) but we have a legitimate case, and i'm sure that scares you to death. Yeah, we suck at football (for now) but it wont forever. And in the mean time, we have a national contender for basketball, which i think will draw enough attention to us to keep us in high esteem.

There were maybe 18k seats occupied in the stadium. Around 2/3rds or more appeared were Southern fans.

A football game with a 6k-8k home attendance isn't FBS atmosphere, mid-tier FCS maybe.

I hope GaState can get 20k hometeam fans to sit down in a seat sometime. Yesterday wasn't it. I'm guessing that next year in the Boro, you won't have 500 fans show up but I hope I'm surprised.

Who did it matter to more this week?

Who acted like it was the CFP?a

It already matters to one school more

Just wanted to point out that eagle9098 never said anything about P5 in his original post, the rest of you guys added that in. That then results in other people posting about how we will never be P5, and us responding over something that we never said (in this thread at least). Great way to derail this thing.

Yes. You guys had 23,000 fans their. You had more fans at your away game than you normally have at your home games...

Again, it's difficult to say "IT'S NOT A RIVALRY, WE DONT CARE ABOUT STATE!!!!" when before, after, and all the rest of the time you talk smack and can't get us off your mind.

We got beat pretty badly. But it's not like it doesn't happen. Pitt got beat by Tech in a pretty similar fashion yesterday, and as i'm sure you know, you guys have a much higher ranked scoring offense than them. Add that to the personnel we were working with, and it makes sense. But if you think this means anything about where we belong, either you're extremely short sighted, or you're just talking smack.

Also, when you do take your lumps, are you going to suddenly decide that you shouldn't be FCS? I think not, and that's how i know you're just talking smack.

Rule of thumb for rookie posters. Don't say you belong in another conference. No Sagarins...ever.

The actual attendance was announced at 17k. So 5-6k Panthers and 11-12k Eagles seems like a reasonable breakdown considering everyone's photos and recaps.

Well, if you're talking about moving to a different conference, i suppose people would assume you mean a better conference, so basically, without including the P5, it means the AAC. So i guess a lot of people implied that that's what was meant.

I have no clue what he meant, just know he didn't say P5. I like the SBC and hope that it turns into the premier G5 instead of folks wanting to leave it.

I hope that enough P5 conferences get pissed off at being left out of the playoffs that it expands for everyone and we can leave these AQ and non-AQ and P5 and G5 terms behind.
