Another NCAA class action lawsuit
Quote:The suit — filed this week in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis, where the NCAA is headquartered — alleges that the NCAA and the schools are violating the wage-and-hour provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act

RE: Another NCAA class action lawsuit
I think that's bogus. So are high schools supposed to pay $7.25/hr to their athletes for all practices & games? WTF?

Not all high school or college sports make money. In fact, most LOSE money. It's not a business just because a select few programs at particular universities do make a lot or a moderate amount of money.

I could see having a stipend of a higher amount that would cover "comfortable needs" because they reasonably CAN'T work thru much of the year due to their sport & school work. But being on an athletic team isn't like you're working the cafeteria -- or doing work to process the functionality of the university (like secretary, computer coder, intern of sorts doing this or that, etc). You can say that it indirectly brings in money To the college due to exposure -- sure. But you can say that about a LOT of things (like famous people going there - should they get paid $7.25 to go?).

NCAA loses again. This time in Federal appeals court.

Federal appeals court upholds ruling NCAA violates antitrust laws

Quote:One I wish I never played
Oh, what a mess we made
And now the final frame
Courts are still working on that "Final frame"
