RE: Sun Belt Conference puts expansion on hold - for now
It would be great to be able to play every other team in the Sun Belt each year if we
had nine members.

Would be nice but don't see UTA adding FBS football.
On another note, a good question to ask the Sun Belt is when the automony rules get activated, will the Sunbelt become a conference without basketball only schools?
The Sun Belt is the only FBS conference that has bb-only schools in its conference. UTA and UALR will have to compete with other schools in the conference that get the CFP $$. That at least give the football schools $$ to apply some of the automony benefits and UTA and UALR won't probably be able to do.
Its not like both won't be able to find a home in a non-football conference.
No, they'll stay. ASU wont get rid of UALR, and Texas State isn't dumping UTA. If anything both will stay because they will be able to offer stipends that they might not be able to offer in a basketball first league.
What about the unlimited food, training table, insurance...etc.
Without a ton of NCAA basketball credits, how would b-ball only teams to able to offer that without having football giving them the additional revenue.
This is a new era involved here now with the autonomy and it will really stretch UALR and even UTA.
It'll stretch, but they're pretty much stuck. They have to offer it if they want to compete. SBC isn't kicking anyone out.
I don't think anybody will be kicked out, but that a decision will need to be made by UTA and UALR if they aren't going to have football in the conference, can they compete with the rest of the conference on the amount of benefits the football schools are going to be able to offer.
This is something that will be observed for the next few years when the benefits stuff gets passed in January. Especially, if the Sun Belt is going to be fully focused on FBS football.

Things may change with the autonomy rules.UALR may prefer the Summit or some other league (Southland,Horizon,OVC).If they can afford it they may want to stay SBC.Budget might determine conference home.

I'm with you.
As soon as E. Kentucky and Missouri St. are ready to go, it's time for Idaho, UALR and UTA to go.

UALR has been a member for 23 years. Georgia Southern has been a member for a few months. Get on with this noise. UALR isn't going anywhere, not should we force them.
Well they had a good run but now that you have some legitimate additions it's time to revamp the image of the conference. Cut the fat so to speak. South Alabama might be on the chopping block next. What is a South Alabama anyway? 50 year old school, 6 year old football program...cute.

I would like to see every conference at 10 with each team playing all 9 conference members plus 3 OOC games. That would determine a true champion. Not a 14 or 16 team conference where you only play half the teams and some teams you only play once every 5-10 years, like the SEC does. The SEC wants and gets all the money by loading itself with top teams, then doesn't play half of them and complains because their schedule is too tough. I know its not going to happen, but it should. Then, every conference champion participates in a run at the national championship, not the farce that it has been and is today. FCS or 1AA has the perfect 16 team model.

10 or 12 are good football numbers -
10 is a complete round robin,
12 gets you a CCG, reduced travel, and see the 3 next year that you don't see this year.
Basketball can work a lot of ways, but what we've seen in the WAC is that with fewer conference games ( because Idaho left for Big Sky this year ) schools filled out the season with some higher RPI opponents, which is good if you're trying to boost your own and the conference RPI.

If the Belt does decide to expand I've heard there's a school named Liberty that's interested in joining. What do you guys think? Would they be a good addition?

Liberty should make a bold move. Make an offer of $10 million to each school for a membership.

Just look at Idaho and New Mexico State as UALR and UTA's football teams.

I don't see the benefit of dropping UTA or UALR. They are olympic only (I know not all the sports are olympic, but come on) and reduce travel costs are close to existing teams. It's good to keep them.
I'm of the mind a 12/14 lineup is best for the Sun Belt. Drop Idaho (I hate to say that, but you know... business is business), NMSU all sports add, MSU & EKU.
I say that happens in 5 years.

IMO, we should target being at 9 or 12 for football. Either everyone plays each other ot we have divisions with a CCG. My preference would be 12, provided the additions are someone like EKU or MSU unless our non-football schools add football.
