UCF 2013 and ECU 2014
The seasons of these two teams are looking more and more alike each week. I watched UCF barely beat bad Memphis and Temple teams last year. This year I am watching ECU barely beat bad USF and UConn teams.

If ECU wins out the season will look like bookends; all the way down to both teams being picked to finish 4th in the preseason polls after coming in from CUSA.

One big difference though, UCF was guaranteed a BCS bowl due to the AAC being AQ last season. This year we're not guaranteed a thing.

UCF's only loss last season was to South Carolina

ECU's only loss so far is to South Carolina

In the sense that both teams are struggling with maintaining success but doing just enough keep it going, yes.

I can see huge similarities between the two. I believe that UCF had close wins over Memphis, Temple and USF... ECU just had a scare but it may have been what they needed.

Right now though Id say that last years UCF team seemed more dominant throughout. Either way, Id like to see ECU win out and take the Access bowl.

and as far as UCF getting the auto bid, even if they were in the system we have now, they would have gotten the access bid so its a moot point.

If ECU does win, along with UCFs win and Uconns domination in bball last year, it has to bode well for our look in.

That UCF team proved they can play with the Power 5.

Another difference is that UCF beat a ranked team on the road @#6 Louisville, that was the game that launched UCF into the national spotlight last year. Unfortunately for ECU it doesn't look like anyone they play in conference will be ranked (maybe UCF if they win out until the ECU game, but nowhere near #6).

RE: UCF 2013 and ECU 2014
You need some close wins to keep players in check. With the spotlight on you now for multiple weeks you get use to hearing the praise and compliments. ECU football has always been about a chip on the shoulder attitude. If we lose that, we lose who we are.

I hope Ruff and Co do a little back to reality drills this week.

RE: UCF 2013 and ECU 2014
I dont see any need for struggles against UCONN and USF with Temple, Cincy, and UCF ahead. Youd think the 2nd half of SMU was enough of a wake up call. Or the game at USF. Is this game isnt a wake up call I dont know what is. Maybe we arent playing bad? Maybe we just arent as good as our fans say we are

We are good. Our play calling was really bad last night, Carden was off on some throws he usually makes, Cam Worthy looked terrible and UConn's D played tough.

One question: is our OLine not good or are those plays calling for Carden roll out?

ECU is good, but the question is how good. VT and UNC weren't the wins we all thought they were, so we probably won't know until bowl season.

People have unrealistic expectations for Cam Worthy, he was never this great player. He has always been a good OWR. He had the good game @VT and that's been about it.

ECU still put up 70 on UNC.
Beat VT in Blacksburg when they had momentum.
Pounded a crappy FCS team.
Beat our first 3 AAC opponents all by double digits.

I'd say we're fine. The AAC is much tougher than C-USA week in and week out.

I can see last night was humbling experience for the ECU fanbase. This thread was going to be "2014 ECU vs 1985 Bears" before the UCONN game.

I still think you're putting too much value on the UNC and VT wins.

Since the OSU game, VT has gone 2-4 and those two wins were to a MAC team and UNC.

UNC has only won one game against P5 opponents (GT) and currently has a losing record.

Depending on how ECU finishes, UCF will have had the better victories in 2013 than ECU in 2014. Not to mention a better loss. South Carolina was much better last year.

ECU beat a ranked VT team on the road the week after VT beat Ohio State on the road. If UCF and ECU can keep winning then they both should be ranked at the end of the season.
