Another difference is that UCF beat a ranked team on the road @#6 Louisville, that was the game that launched UCF into the national spotlight last year. Unfortunately for ECU it doesn't look like anyone they play in conference will be ranked (maybe UCF if they win out until the ECU game, but nowhere near #6).
Although they've fallen since, ECU did beat a ranked Va Tech team. Although Louisville's only loss all year was to UCF. But the similarities are funny. Even the QBs wear #5.

ok, lets say we have a 10-15 ranked ECU playing a 20-25 ranked UCF in the season finale. who does everyone root for?
unfortunately i think UCF will be regarded as the devil if they knock ECU of and send marshall to the access bowl for a beatdown.

All non-ucf fans in the aac will root for ecu considering the access spot $ and perception. I want ucf 16-0 in aac play and another championship. If Marshall does lose a game to the sisters of the poor, ucf would become the new favorite for the access slot.

How do you know USF is actually "bad". Let's see what the final season record is before declaring a team bad. USF is 3-4, but could be 5-1 if they had held on to leads against Maryland, Wisconsin, and ECU. I have a strong feeling USF will be competitive down the stretch. Are they good, probably not yet, but are they "bad"....hmmm.

UCF also barely beat USF last year
UCF had 6 close conf games (out of 8) last year where some came down to the wire and/or final play. (UCF has had 3 games like that already this year...2 non-conf games vs Penn State and BYU, plus the conf game vs Houston).
Only 2 conf games last year that UCF dominated were the home games vs Rutgers and UCONN.
All you can hope for is just WIN...by any means necessary against anyone.

ECU beat 1-6 UCONN by 10
ECU beat 3-4 USF by 11
ECU beat 0-6 SMU by 21
UCF beat 2-10 Temple by 3
UCF beat 2-10 USF by 3
UCF beat 5-7 SMU 4
UCF beat 3-9 Memphis by 7
Winning by 3+ times as much is not the same, and we don't even know that USF is a bad team and we've won every game by at least 2 scores / double digits.

RE: UCF 2013 and ECU 2014
I think ECU is experiencing the same thing UCF did last year, in that it's a lot of pressure that these kids are under. They clearly know what is at stake. Even though ECU and UCF has/had experienced and talented players the pressure is tough to play with plus as you probably already know you're going to get whomever you play's best shot.

RE: UCF 2013 and ECU 2014
First of all, ECU fans you can't think the AAC is sitting back rooting for you if they have yet to play you or are a game out or two. The AAC teams you have yet to play, aren't going to let you just ease on thru to the access bowl. They want to beat you. We learned this last year that even though we were leading the way, nobody was going lay down for us. In fact, it gave them more incentive to go out and play us hard.
I wouldn't just think ECU is gonna run the table until the UCF game, just yet.

UCF 2013 and ECU 2014
UCF gave Louisville their only loss last year when they had teddy bridgewater. UCF also gave Baylor only their second loss. UCF beat better teams but the seasons are still similar.

Yeah, ECU beat a ranked VT by 8. Beat a P5 UNC by 29 and scored 70 on that team. Same team that almost beat Notre Dame.
I don't think UCF was any more dominant. They both were/are having rough patches. Less so for ECU this year but it really doesn't matter.

Ucf was a weird team in 2013, but we played 3 top 15 final ranking teams. Beat 2 out of 3 of them and lost the only one (South Carolina) 3.
ECU needs to get some MOJO back to impress the committee. Marshall is 95% likely going undefeated. There is literally nothing in front of them.

Well for good or bad we aren't going to get away with playing bad and winning. Temple will win if we play like we've played the last 3 games. So we are either going to get our act together and play well, or we are just going to lose and we can all move on from this access bowl garbage.

Impossible to say for sure if you end up running the table the rest of the way. Our "tough" opponents were definitely tougher though (final rankings listed):
#4 South Carolina (11-2), lose by 3 at home
#12 Baylor (11-2), won by 10 at neutral site
#15 Louisville (12-1), won by 3 on the road
Penn St (7-5), won by 3 on the road
ECU's four toughest opponents so far are 4-3 South Carolina, 4-4 VaTech, 3-4 UNC, and 3-4 USF.
