What would the combined age of the Browns be?

As an alumnus and season ticket holder, this news underwhelms me. I want a young, aggressive assistant who can recruit like Barry Switzer circa 1975.

I have to think that if Mack's name is in any way mentioned with that UNC scandal that he would be nowhere near our list of possible coaches.

For $4M a year, SMU can afford to go after someone better than Mack Brown. Heck, for that they should be able to lure a good P5 oach who isn't even on the hotseat.

Lincoln Riley

East Carolina offensive coordinator/QBs

Age: 31 Salary: $200,000

Résumé: Texas native descends from the Mike Leach coaching tree. His Q-rating rose significantly last year when his team set a school record for total offense (6,086 yards). His star is shining even brighter this season with the nation’s third-ranked offense (564.7). In his fifth year at ECU, he has the rare dual traits of being young and experienced. He has turned down coordinator jobs at bigger schools — Notre Dame QB coach, North Carolina OC last year — preferring to remain patient for a head coaching job.

Just so you know, the ND job offer wasn't a serious offer. That much I was told from the inside. Not serious because of the position level offered or because there wasn't a lot behind the offer? I'm not entirely sure why it wasn't considered serious. Either way, the UNC job was the only one on the table. But who in the world would want to work for Fedora?

It did get us a blip on the media radar in an otherwise crappy 0-12 season.

Here in Nashville, Braydon Gall (sp) of 247 sports was saying that was basically a interwebs rumor.

recruiting went south. Not his fault.
Major Applewhite brought in the quarterbacks....the last several he brought in were substandard by Texas standards.

Mack Brown is not worth 4 million...or 3 million...or 2 million...or even 1 million IMHO. SMU can get a much better ROI. There are plenty of solid candidates around better than MB.

This rumor has been dispelled by both sides. SMU has officially releases a statement saying that they in no way have contacted Mack Brown.

Yep, Heisman winners Manziel and RGIII both ended up elsewhere after UT was full up at QB. I think it was Manziel that said Texas was his favorite team growing up, and he ends up winning the Heisman at rival A&M.

Say what?

Who do you think makes the final recruiting/scholarship decisions on which recruits to offer and/or accept?

HINT: Its the HEAD COACH...hence why they get much (not all) credit when recruiting is good and get ALL the blame when recruiting is BAD. (i.e. they hire asst coaches, final scholarship decisions, etc...).

Mack Brown passing on a QB seems to be the "kiss of life" for their football career.

Academic told June he was his best when he wasn't prepared. Guess he took that to heart. Also had the guy look over players at Hawaii and SMU

SMU is the last place Mack will go. Almost like regressing to Tulane where he was AD and football coach.

SMU has nothing to lose by hiring Mack Brown. What's the worst it could get for them? Dude could bring in better recruits.

The guy is 70. I really doubt he wants to take on a massive rebuilding project at this point.

He's 63, less than a year older than Nick Saban.

There may be good reasons to pass on Mack, but age shouldn't be one of them.
