UNC should have to forfeit every championship in football and basketball for the past several decades. All of those teams were kept eligible with these fake classes and papers.

They will skate on this though. It is infuriating.

I think it is a joke that the NCAA is gonna let them get away with this when they should nail them to the wall. This is IMHO worse that what USC did to get their probation, and I hate USC.

The entire athletic department would, the university's accreditation would be stripped/seriously threatened, and state legislators would call for the school to be shutdown and students to be shipped to other universities.

This is pretty much worse than what anyone has ever done before.

(1) they were paying players, providing them cars, paying for their parking tickets, getting them out of trouble with the cops, etc.
(2) they created fake classes, a bogus major, have graduated "honor roll" students who were illiterate, etc.
(3) they had a professional agent/runner on the athletic staff, NFL alums were flying the players to other states and throwing lavish parties and buying jewelry for them
(4) the original NCAA investigator on the case got busted for being a HUGE UNC-CHeat fan- his facebook profile page was him decked out in UNC-CHeat gear posing with the mascot at a Tar Heel game
(5) they covered the whole thing up and have not cooperated in the slightest (the cooperation they tout was hiring a lapdog to do the investigation, pinning the whole thing on "a" rogue professor and "a couple" of rogue athletes)

These guys should get slapped into next century. What's worse is having to listen to the school and the fans tout all of their national success, etc., despite the fact that they probably have almost none of it in the past couple of decades without the cheating.

This is basically the logical conclusion of where we're headed with college sports. When the school has such a huge financial incentive to be good at sports, the actual mission of the university becomes secondary. I doubt there's any school that's immune (including Rice). It's just a fundamental conflict of interest.

Is it SMU bad? I think another Death Penalty for a P5 school is needed in order to curb or stop all the cheating. What they are doing now is absurd.

This is much worse than SMU. SMU only paid some high profile players. I can't believe they created a fake major so the UNC players would be eligible. They need the death penalty for at least 3 years. I am sure ECU would be more than happy to take their place in the ACC

The thing is, they are like the Texas of the ACC. The crown jewell. Now what happens?? If nothing is done, the NCAA shows its true colors, then Congress could intervene.

Please give me ONE LEGITIMATE REASON why UNC does not deserve the DEATH PENALTY, along with MIAMI (The university of paid players). Both of them have certainly earned it!
