I bet they disregard vacated seasons...1985 and 2008 boost our profile.

I mean, anything that has Temple over Nova and Georgetown is good with me, but they have Western Kentucky and Princeton ahead of us.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH SMU!?!?!??! SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?

When was the last time they made the NCAA's? There's no way they're better than Tulsa in basketball. 01-wingedeagle

Utah at #12 seems really high.

RE: SI's Top 75 Basketball programs of all time
This is just a statistical analysis of "all time" history. For anyone who hasn't read the article and wonders how SMU is ranked ahead of Tulsa or why a certain team seems high or low, this is the point breakdown in their ranking system:

NCAA Championship: 10 points
Championship game loser: 6 points
Pre-NCAA tournament championships: 6 points
Final Four: 5 points
Elite Eight: 4 points
Sweet Sixteen: 3 points
NCAA Tournament Appearance: 2 points
Conference Championship: 8 points

The 8 points for a conference championship seems absurd when they only give 10 for an NCAA tournament championship.

It put Cincy in a high ranking switch is why OP posted. They need to focus on beating Harvard in March.

How many championships and final fours do you have? And since Memphis State fans love to point out overall head to head records, what is yours against Cincinnati?

Houston seems absurdly low considering their 60's (Elvin Hayes, Don Chaney, "Game of the Century") and 80's (Phil Slama Jama, Hakeem, Clyde) National Prominence under Hall of Fame coach Guy V. Lewis.

#51? Really??

Houston has the most significant basketball history in the South.

Can't wait to see Kelvin Sampson lead the Coogs!

Ehhhhhhhhhh I am just as much a homer as the next guy but I would say Kentucky has the "most significant basketball history in the South" along with North Carolina and Duke.

Just sayin.......

I'm beginning to think that the author is clowning Houston basketball... having featured a picture in that article of Danuel House and TaShawn Thomas (the two players who transferred out upon Sampson's hiring), to go with the #51 all-time nonsense. 05-nono

I guess it has more to do with your definition of South... but its cool. I guess we're taking away designations of SouthEast, etc..

Well to use the probably accepted "definition" of the South being states that seceded your right Kentucky was technically "neutral" during the conflict so I'll give you a pass on them....

But NC and Duke are well in the "South" sitting in North Carolina.

That said I agree we don't get enough credit for our history thanks to over two decades of mediocrity. Hopefully Sampson changes that!!!

You run this poll in say 1989, 1990 or somewhere close to that the results would be a lot different.

Did we beat you twice last year? One year we beat you 4 freaking times, lol. Focus on that.

I agree... I should have chosen more universal parameters. I wasn't arguing that we have better history than UNC (to make that clear). In my world, they are East Coast teams.
