3. Assigning Specific Grades upon Request: We found evidence that both Crowder
and Nyang’oro received requests that they award specific grades to certain student-athletes. Those
requests came from two persons – Associate Director of ASPSA and Director of Football Cynthia
Reynolds and women’s basketball academic counselor Jan Boxill (“Boxill”).

Athletic staff are directly involved, the NCAA cannot sit idly by and if they do there are already politicians waiting for them to make that mistake.

GrayBeard, this is acutally quoted in the report that was just released. SACS who accredits UNC and the rest of the southern region institutions has already investigated the AFAM irregularities. Their findings were that bc UNC had identified them and were working to fix the issue that no further precautions would follow. Now whether or not this reopens the case I don't know. HOWEVER the state certainly needs to do something. While the rest of us suffer cuts that are a significant detriment UNC has all the money it will ever need. They can deal with less tax payer dollars.

From the report: "In considering the athletic purpose and use of these classes, however, it is useful to recognize that
this controversy is but one part of a broader issue that affects college athletics across the country."

Same ole UNC diatribe, "everyone else is doing it"

Quickly now, investigate every University that's hired a UNC Alumna in the last 20 years. If they did it there, chances are they continued the process where they went. 07-coffee3

"Sarcasm Alert should be on!"

When they're done at the Afro-American Shame course, they should shamble over to Admissions. I'm sure they'll have just as much fun there as they're having now. 05-stirthepot

Not to start a war but tell that to UCF. Their Athletic Director was actively involved and they got a slap on the wrist and lets be honest... UCF isn't nearly as important to the NCAA and ESPN as UNC.

This site lists the things and proof of what UCF did. Its definatly biased since its a fan blog but all the accusations are proven and in full public record... UCF got a slap on the wrist.

This is why I say UNC wont even feel anything.

Nooooooo!!!!!! My daughter was going to get a degree from UNC. Sure she's only 7 but she meets their admissions requirements for athletes and she's darn good at Hopscotch. 03-weeping

2. I swear people on this forum spin every thread into a way to bash UCF.

This is my favorite quote from that article

I worked at USF Athletics for 5.5 years ('02-'07), and can verify we laughed at UCF and the decisions they made forever. If UCF did it, it was most likely wrong and for sure short-sighted. Just look at the way each school handed the conference realignment shuffle in 2003: USF was flawless, subtle, and well-planned.

As opposed to the f'in dumpster fire that is USF athletics today 05-stirthepot

Oh, and here's reason #26 for UWCF fans to hate UCF:

Now back to our regularly scheduled UNC bashing ....

"From the beginning, the university has taken the position that these classes started in an academic department by a person employed by academic side of university ... and the athletic department took advantage of it," Ross said.

UNC spinning away already. Zero integrity just like the NCAA.

I came straight out and said that it was biased. Its a fan blog, so its going to be....but it doesn't mean that the first part of it isn't true AND it is directly applicable to the UNC situation.

UCF did cheat, twice and actively had their AD and other staff involved. They basically didn't punish UCF at all and this is what I am basing my position that UNC wont get punished at all.

and btw... posting what is a proven truth isn't spinning or bashing. UCF cheated, twice. You were found guilty, your president admitted wrong doing. Your coach got a show cause and your AD had to resign. If ANY of that is not correct, please tell me and I will recant it.

and seriously, what the hell do you care. You guys cheated and ended up moving up in conference and won a Fiesta bowl championship. It worked out great. Essentially, you did what Miami, FSU and UF did and I almost want to applaud you. If USF had cheated while we were in the Big East, we may have already been invited to the Big 12.

RE: OT: Report: UNC athletes steered to paper classes
by the way, national media is already calling for a major sanction from the NCAA. They are citing what happened to Minnesota.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_...ll_scandal

They didn't do nearly a quarter of what UNC did and they received, major scholarship reductions that crippled them, had to pay back 90% of the money from their NCAA appearances during that time and to vacate all wins in the NCAA appearances during that time.

So lets have some fun... what would that mean for UNC.

1. Loss of 2005 and 2009 National Championships
2. Loss of 1997, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 final four income and wins
3. Loss of 1997, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 Elite eight wins and income.
4. Loss of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 sweet 16 wins and round of 32 wins and income.

That would equal MILLIONS and reduce their championships from 5 to 3... Plus with losing 4 scholarships a year for 3-4 years, it would set their program back for a decade.... and this is if they get only what Minnesota got, which was tiny in comparison.

and yet... I think very little will be done, but its fun to hope.

Ucf got crushed with scholarship reductions in both football and basketball. We are still dealing with that today.
