This is a not a long article, but there was some decent research by the writer on teams that are expected to finish in the bottom of the AAC basketball standings.

11. USF
10. UCF
9. Tulane
8. ECU
7. Houston

I actually went to HS with one of the UCONN writers for that blog. Alas, that's not one of his articles.

I agree with the author, UCF is probably in for another rough season. I'm not sure if I have faith in Donnie getting us any further than he already has.

Reasonable ECU fans expect 6-7 conference wins, which is doable. That should put us in the 7-9 range in the conference standings. Our defense will not be as bad as last years, and hopefully with the size we have coming in we can get an inside game going, which will free up our perimeter shooters.

Not surprised USF is picked for last. No one really has any ideas how we will do this year with a new coach and mostly new players

I think it's a decent writeup. Hard to argue with the bottom 5.

Good write-up. Operative sentence about ECU.

Quote:East Carolina has the talent and experience to stay competitive in games, but they desperately need to improve on their defense as they allowed 1.12 points per possession last season which ranked 305th in the nation

I don't expect ECU to be contenders either, but look forward to this year being a very positive year of growth for the program. Taking some games we aren't expected to, and advancing as a program with increased competition.

Pretty fair. My guess on the rest:

6. Temple
5. Tulsa
4. Cincy
3. Memphis
2. UConn
1. SMU

This conference is going to be ridiculously tough if ucf is really #10. We have a short bench but we will have our 1st parade all American at the point. Blair/Mcbride Center and Kasey Wilson which I expect to have a good year.

Yea but they're still freshman at the end of the day.

It'll take 2-3 years but by then we should be very good. Our recruiting is much improved and we're now landing ESPN Top 150 and Parade All American guys.

Very likely. Plus with the short bench any injuries will really put the team in trouble. This year we won't be in the bottom portion of ft% in the ncaa which will be less frustrating to watch. I think we might surprise teams this year, but definitely not enough to compete with the top.

Since I was mentioned...and I've said 6th is likely our ceiling. I mean good god two spots. I think we finish between 6 to 9 as the floor and there likely isn't 2 craps difference in Temple and Houston. All are very mediocre looking. Tulane also returns 86% of their minutes and should be improved as well.

Temple has 3 transfers that will provide immediate help. Temple has much better overall talent that ECU and Tulane. The Owls should finish in the top 5.

I have to agree with SJ I think we finish somewhere between 6th and 9th. Any better would be a smashing success, and worse would be a failure.

With new coaching staff and players here at Houston now, I don't take offense to the #7 rank in this league.

With outstanding coach Sampson running the show, I doubt we finish that low, IMO.

We aren't finishing last... With AC back at point that alone will bring in wins and we have a talented team around him. I know the author of the article doesn't have much to go on but those that are seeing the team think year one wont be bad at all.... and next year when our transfers become eligible, well be in the top 5

If it takes me 2 hands to count the number of conference wins for UCF this year, I'll consider the season a "success".

Who knows where we will finish as I said there is some talent but the lack of playing time together as a team and with a new coach and mostly new players we might surprise but we could also flop. Time will tell I like what I see and what coach is doing BUT we haven't seem them play as a team yet.
