RE: Current team recruiting rankings
I don't know where they are ranked, but a couple of other MAC schools in Toledo, Miami (OH), and N. Illinois have also stepped up and done well in recruiting. Even CMU seems to have done a little better than in years past. I don't think there is as much separation in how well WMU is doing this year than last year.

Which ranking site would be considered most accurate? The Yahoo one for example puts us at the top of the G5 (other then Cincinnati on that particular list) and over notable schools like Stanford, Mizzou, NC St, Toledo, NIU, and Oregon St. Either way should be a bright future. The vast majority are from Michigan and Illinois.

This is a better breakdown for each team
I beg to differ.. Lets take a look.

Scouts Rankings.

WMU 36
Toledo 55
CMU 56
NIU 58

24/7 Rankings

WMU 60
NIU 75
Toledo 86
CMU 92

Rivals Rankings

WMU 51
NIU 66
Toledo 69
CMU 88

Let your minds eye determine how close these early rankings are...I, for one, will take our position all day long.

15 to 20 spots isn't that much difference, especially considering that the sheer number gives you points in those rankings, so 25 commits registers more than 19 commits. All of them have guys with several power 5 offers, with maybe CMU the exception, but a couple of their guys, Romelo Ross and Wilborn in particular are well thought of.

Me saying that isn't a negative. Its a good thing that PJ seems to have lit a fire under other MAC coaches to recruit better. The stronger the conference, the more exposure for the University.

I'm very happy that WMU is recruiting well, I follow it closely.

RE: Current team recruiting rankings
I've always liked 24/7's rankings the best out of all of them because they've always taken "number of commitments" into account and adjusted accordingly.

Rivals is based on a pure scoring/point system. It's not a bad way to do it, but it doesn't necessarily adjust for how many commitments you have until National Signing Day.

I don't know how Scout's work. I still hate their site overall, and especially do not like their new format.

The majority are in that 6 hour radius, but WMU is dabbling in Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania enough to grab a few from these states every year.

To me, the recruiting rankings are always misleading at this point in the process. The only reason our class would be rated higher then, say, Stanford or Mizzou, is because we have far more verbal commitments at this point. We will slide in the overall rankings as P5 schools fill up their classes - even though the quality of our class will likely remain unchanged during that time (unless we have a handful of decommitments).

That said, I agree that the future is looking bright - any way you choose to look at it...

That's why I've always preferred 24/7, because they take this into account in their rankings (that's why you see theirs so much lower than Rivals and Scout).

I trust player evaluation the most from Rivals and Scout, but I trust overall recruiting class team rankings from 24/7.

Sounds fair, Hoek - I'm most familiar with Rivals and have not checked out 24/7 before. May have to keep an eye on that more in the future...

I think if you're trying to get the most up to date and accurate list of WMU commits, and best player evaluations, it's Rivals hands down. But in terms of where we stack up against other teams overall, 24/7 is good.

If we had an active message board on Scout with subscribers Allen Truie sp would rank every player we have with 1 offer, 3 stars, and every one with multiple offers 4 stars.

What I like about Allen, if he's heard of a player he warrants 2 stars. If the players send him a video it's an automatic three stars. If he sees the player and gets an interview it's good for four stars.

Rivals won't let publishers rank football players, which is how it should be.

Actually Hustlebelt has the best complete listing of verbals as well as decommits, here is an article on their rankings:
