RE: Miami vs Cincinnati
The fact that Miami of Florida is a member of the ACC is almost enough to make me puke. That is worse than ANY crowd I've EVER seen at LBMS, and I am a member of the 4200 club.

Good Gosh.

Even during their heyday, they never drew huge crowds at home.

Not true at all. I was down there for several sold out 72k+ games at the Orange Bowl before it was demolished in 2008.

Hard to tell what Miami's heyday is unless it's a 25 year period, but the OB would routinely fill up.

Now that they're way up north in Roby stadium, I mean Landshark stadium, I mean Sun Life stadium, I mean Dolphin Stadium, and the team really sucks, no one shows up to games. Students either have to endure a 90 minutes shuttle ride (not so appealing if you pre-game before the shuttle and are packed in like sardines with full bladders) or get charged $40 to park and tailgate after the 45 minute to an hour drive from campus.

This one is squarely on the University administration, and they need to fix it quick.

Yep. Sad thing is, he's turning out to be a better coach than Al Golden.

Lazy coaching hires set your program back years (I.E. Larry Porter). Multiple lazy coaching hires in a row (I.e. Larry Coker, Randy Shannon and Al Golden) can set it back decades.

Miami football is on life support right now. It's going to take a miraculous coaching hire to fix it. It isn't very appealing to coaches or recruits anymore.

If you break down the NFL by counties from which the players come, Miami-Dade and Broward counties are no. 1 and 2 on the list. There is not a better or more condensed area of HS football talent on the planet than South Florida. California may produce more NFL athletes, but it's spread out over the state. The days of the State of Miami have been gone for a while, but there's no reason you can't keep a good bit of these guys home and have a top 10 recruiting class most years.

Golden is being paid around $2 mill. right now and the alumni association just surpassed $100m on the current giving campaign for the Athletic Dept. Miami can't compete with the SEC powerhouses when it comes to funds, but there's no reason not be be dominating the ACC.

Not disputing what you are saying, but I remember seeing some games on tv when the stadium looked to be no more than half filled. The announcers were giving the excuse that there is a whole lot of other things to do in Miami.

I went to some Miami v. FAMU or FIU games that were sparsely populated, but I'd bet they still had 40k there out of the OB's 72k capacity.

Regardless, "people would rather be at the beach" is always the excuse that the Miami homers use to make it sound like people not coming to games is ok.

Many of the ACC schools routinely struggle with attendance. UVA only had 32,000 against Louisville the week after they played UCLA so tough. The worst looking crowd I've seen all year was the Duke crowd against Tulane. I bet there weren't 10,000 fans in the bleachers. We sit in the middle of the best attended league in the country and many of our fans try to compare us to that.

Fair point. Given the recent history of our program and schedule, our attendance numbers are impressive. That being said, our attendance numbers need to be incredible for us to jump into a better conference over some of our competition. There are plenty of other areas weighing us down.

The time period I was referring to was in the 80's. You would think that with the success they were having, the stadium would be packed every game. Here is a chart showing attendance figures:

Funny how our poor attendance was a source of ESPN ridicule.

They did have some huge crowds but historically they rarely averaged more than 50,000.

Frankly, 50,000 in the Orange Bowl sounded like 747s landing, so that was okay.

Espn has an attendance figure 43000 in their box score for that game.

That's why most of these schools have bs attendance. Butts in seats is all that matters from outside viewers and TV folks.
