RE: ECU fans: Your biggest game of the modern BCS+ era
If ECU runs the table to go into the UCF game at 10-1 we would probably be ranked #12-15 . If UCF runs the table and enters the game at 9-2 then I would guess they would be ranked around #22. In my opinion as a fan who has watched ECU for 28yrs it would be the biggest game in the history of ECU and Ficklen Stadium based on what would be riding on it. in that scenario it is a win and go to what is basically a BCS Bowl or lose and go play BYU in a Baseball Stadium or play some ACC after thought in Annapolis.
Lot of wood to chop before that game for ECU and UCF but it would be an absolutely huge game if it ended up being the only thing standing between ECU and the Peach Bowl, Fiesta Bowl etc..

I agree with this...the situation would be the only reason why though. You could substitute UCF's name with just about any as long as they were 9-2, in second place and fighting for the conference Championship and it would be just as big.
The problem with the above, six more games to go for each team. 12 total games. It's still a challenge (maybe mentally more than physically) for both teams to get there without tripping up.

Could be lining to be the biggest conference game we have played considering the stakes but...overall... not so sure...
RE: ECU fans: Your biggest game of the modern BCS+ era
It is unlikely either team will have those records. It still will be a big game and a good chance it will be for the conference championship. Id say even at that...it would be huge for both programs.
RE: ECU fans: Your biggest game of the modern BCS+ era
Legit question and I'd say yes.
If both continue to win, both would be undefeated in the conference, so this becomes the conference championship game by default. This speaks volumes for ECU coming into the league in its first year and winning like UCF last year and also speaks volumes for UCF after starting 0-2 and losing Storm and Blake from last year. Both teams would be riding 9 game winning streaks and ranked in the Top 25.
Think of the number of Marshall, Colorado St, Boise St, etc. (teams with a shot at the access bowl) fans that will likely tune into that game to see the outcome. It's the ONLY game scheduled on ESPN that night and I'd expect some decent ratings across the country. So both teams have an opportunity to showcase their talents nationwide with no other college games on.
The NFL game on that night is Dallas v Chicago, but I still think the ratings will do well.
If all the pieces fall into place, then yes that game would likely be the biggest in the BCS/college playoff era for us IMHO. The Access Bowl would then supercede that game if we made it there.

Its WAY better for us if different teams win the conference AND then win the Access bowl afterward. It will show depth and parity, which could lead to a decent bump when it comes time for the contract look in.
You must be young.
When did the BCS start?
As far as what the game would mean, yes, it would be the biggest.

Good answer. Exactly what I was wondering. I forgot about the other conferences tuning in part. That game could have extremely high ratings (relative to other G5 games). Somewhere in the 1.5-2.5 range.

The biggest game imo, would not fit your criteria as it would not fall under your definition of the "modern area." The BCS is not the modern era. I know some of you guys on here follow teams that have only about a 10 to 15 year total football history but college football did exist before USF and UCF had football and before UConn made the jump to division 1.

He was saying big seasons, 1991 qualifies as a big season or do you disagree with that?
Of course there is 1983, 1995, 1999 in addition to 08, 09.
No he was not "saying big seasons" like you say. He asked what the biggest wins in the modern era are for your school and qualified that the modern era is the BCS era which started in 98. He's either young or started following football ONLY after his school started a football program.

UCF football started in 1979, so even if he did start watching the year UCF fielded a team it would be 35 years ago and its before any season mentioned in the previous post.
I'm sorry that some of us weren't watching football in the 60s.

And I wouldn't blame them either. We could win out to the end of the season, but if every game were as ugly as the Tulane and Houston games, I'd not protest being unranked

I wouldn't either. We might be a solid team right now, but we are certainly not a Top 25 team. And there's nothing in our schedule until ECU to prove otherwise:

Let's check your math...
Its currently 2014 and UCF's first season was 1979 so...
2014-1979=35 years
Yes, we're a new program but we're not 10 years old like you're claiming.
Congrats on not having even basic knowledge of your conference-mates schools. Why does the age of the football program even matter to this discussion anyway? We're in the same exact place right now.
