RE: How to stop SMU this week
Wasn't the goal to play into a bowl game. Why do you think the end goal for these young men is a bowl game and win. We you are winning you usually ant to win more. Marshall plays $hit teams all year but I bet you they keep it competitive in a bowl game.

IMO the goal should be to win the conference not going to a bowl.

We've lost for so long, it'll take a while to relearn. In the meantime, the more blowouts the better, against anyone we can beat. Next step is beating the "good" teams regularly, which I believe WILL happen, and soon.
As far as a bowl game goes, if we go to a bowl game, Fuente ought to be in the conversation for American Coach of the Year.
I 2nd that.
I believe that Tommy's best coaching year was the year that Mo Avery had to be switched from receiver back to qb...because we had lost our first, second (didn't we lose our 3rd string qb too?) qbs...and we had to reinvent our offense 3 times that year.
The Motor City Bowl was a great game, losing to the Snelly Owls and SF not so much. If we finish 7-7 and lose the bowl game I'm ok with it. We do have Temple as a reminder you can't just "show-up" (I would be afraid they would have forgotten about UH by then).
Goin' to SMU, hopin' for a blowout, but a win is a win.

In the 3rd year of rebuilding with a program like Memphis. I will take it that you are joking. A few things have to happen to teams we don't play this year.

Y'all remember when Tommy was coaching....and we got to the magicJack Bowl game against South Florida,
Remember what happened? I do....we got our azzes whacked something like 41-14?
Tommy and RC had dumbed down the schedule to get to bowl eligibility.
That is the sign of desperate people trying to stay afloat.
Football teams don't get better by beating up on weak teams. They get better by beating good teams, then better teams, then GREAT teams.
When you beat a bunch of weak CUSA teams, you get full of yourselves...and then brought back to reality when you play against a good team in the bowl game.
I have no problem with anything geosnooker said at all.
Yeah I remember the Bowling Green game too, it was ugly.

Will the AAC even really declare a winner this season? We've got no divisions, championship game or round robin scheduling. What happens if 3-4 teams finish with 2 conference losses?

Those questions were rhetorical, Isaac Newton.
The point is we shouldn't care who wins this dumpster fire of a conference because the trophy will most likely have half the conference's name on it.
Better to aim for a bowl game this season then a meaningless 4 way co-championship.

Houston is pretty good. They are fast and have a really good defense. They've added a guy who can make plays at QB. Give the coach credit that was a ballzy move replacing their qb with a wide receiver.

Well, sort of, they do have a museum on campus, but that would get this thread moved to the political forum
