No such thing as AAC Hoops uses refs that work in 5 or 6 other conf (including Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, etc...as many refs try to work 5-6 games per week, which is a whole other topic to discuss).

I'm pretty sure every conference hates their officials. Nobody ever thinks they do a good job.

RE: AAC Officials?
I recall seeing somewhere that AAC officials also work NFL games. That suggests to me that they are probably good as any and better than most.

Football:
My impression was the CUSA officials were terrible.

I think that AAC officials aren't any better or worse than other conferences' officials, including the big conferences. I'm much happier with these crews than I was 2 years ago in CUSA.

Now, if it turns out that we've got the same crews that we had with CUSA, I may need to look in a mirror and ask if I'm really being objective or was my impression just a result of the number of losses that we had.

Basketball:
It's such a fast paced and subjective game, that it's hard for a row 22 fan to have good judgement, but I haven't seen a good crew since Steve Welmer retired. He's the official that you would see tugging at his pants to keep them up. He got along with every coach, players, etc. He'd even get to know court side fans on occasion.

RE: AAC Officials?
As a high school basketball official (I do baseball and soccer too), I can tell you that at that level alone, the game is wicked fast...I think what most coaches...and fans want (and it really applies to all sports officiating) is consistency...

For example, an official who lets hand checking go in the first 10 minutes of a half had better not call it in the last three... He/she is really asking for trouble... We've always started out tight and then loosened up because the players will adjust to how the game is being called...But no one wants to see a foul fest...Unfortunately, that is what the NCAA is clearly wanting with all of the emphases on certain things...AND BE IN POSITION!!!! Nothing gets me more riled up as an official than that...
