We have an entire line who is in graduate school and a fullback who has already started a business while playing and taking classes. These guys are an amazing face for this program beyond the typical QB, RB, Rec stud athlete resume. I'm totally behind these guys and the staff who has been a major influence in their development as leaders of men. Congrats.

+1. On and off the field we are the best in the MAC. Look no further than what they did with Jayrone Elliot.
According to reports he was a thug, didn't respect authority, and was selfish as a freshman. The man matured... and he is now making plays with the Green Bay packers.

I'm proud of our guys, and can't wait for their futures.

I've been following that Roesenbaum kid. Seems like a typical Shawnee grad, athletic, brilliant, motivated, exceptionally good looking. How do they turn those guys out year after year? Very nice article about his business aspirations and staying home to make it happen.

I was given a tour of the newly expanded Larimer Athletic Complex late Friday afternoon prior to the Ball State game the next day. What jumped out at me was that the tutoring area was packed with student-athletes at five pm on a Friday! To me this says a lot about the quality of the athletes recruited by and the commitment of UT to them.

I don't think he was mugging people and robbing liquor stores. Heard he was kinda selfish and unmotivated and it took a few years to grow into himself as a man. "Thug"?

A word that has lost its meaning. Anyone not committed to making themselves the "best" they can be is a "thug."

03-banghead

Reviewing posts: yep, no mention of race anywhere in the discussion, until you came along. Maybe it's yours that is showing? Maybe it's his culturism that is showing?

Wow that got out of hand quickly. Jayrone is my favorite player ever at UT. He even plays for my favorite pro team, and I'm getting a #91 jersey for Christmas. I'm not a racist at all, and nothing indicated race in my post.

Maybe "hood" wasn't the best word. He "struggled" his first year or two at UT with the college football lifestyle... better?

OK. It was the combination of "thug" and "hood" that go my attention. Those two words have served as code words since it is now taboo to say a certain racial epithet.

I spoke too hastily and too strongly. I accept that you had no evil intent, and I certainly don't know you well enough to call you a racist, so my bad. I do think, though, that I was probably not the only one whose eyebrows went up at your comments. In fact, after Crystal Bradford was called a thug on this board a year or so ago, another poster talked about how that is a loaded word when used against a young black, especially when there is not evidence of violent behavior.

You should stick to driving to basketball games in level 3 snow emergencies.

Gentlemen! I, too, recoil at the term "thug" and may be the poster to whom Dwight refers. I think the term has gotten more and more loosely used over time, as east demonstrated in his definitions post. This board has been pretty good over the years at keeping discourse civil. Don't want to end up like some "other" boards. Thanks for the retraction, Dwight. Oh, and still with the snow thing? Hold off until he does it THIS year-then nail him.

Hey I like your signature with all the memorable Rocket wins over the years. You might want to add the 35-14 win over Navy (@Navy) back from that great 2000 team...
The 21-14 win @ Colorado State in 1973 with( future all-pro Lawrence McCutcheon) is worthy of listing also...
