True, they were the boise st of their time before there was even such thing as Boise st in college football. They also played for national championships. Never liked them but loved the "Catholics vs the criminals" game!

Comparing Miami to Boise has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen lol. Miami has won 5 championships. LOL

I bet you are a younger fan, or a nominal college football fan and don't realize that no one in the country had ever heard of Miami until the 1980's. Read the comments above about location etc too. Miami came out of nowhere and won with great recruiting (cheating) was in a great location for travel and located in the same city (stadium even) as a top 3 bowl, the Orange Bowl. They had no college football culture at all; they've never even had a football stadium. They are the newest football program in the P5--in some cases by 100 years. Yes, maybe BYU under Edwards would've been a better comparison but my point was that Miami came out of nowhere when making the Boise comparison.

Lol, i am 40 and I know there history. You do know there coach went on to build my glorious Louisville football program with a fiesta bowl win over Alabama.

Of Course! I'll never forget the Howard S. quote after being hired at Louisville, "Louisville is on a collision course with the national championship" That guy was a college football legend!

I wouldn't say Miami is the newest (Utah and arguable a few others are) but point taken.

C2, What I meant was that Miami started up their football program way after the other P5 programs. Utah started a football team over 100 years ago, and Rutgers for one, started football over 100 years BEFORE Miami started a team.

Yep like a lot of private and independent schools, Louisville included looked at dropping Football as cost were going through the roof and TV contracts were non existent. Only a handful of schools like USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Notre Dame had TV star power. Football was NFL as far as TV was concerned in those days.

No surprise - UC's defense performs as usual and UC gets creamed again.

My guess is Butch Jones didn't recruit well his last year or 2 on defense. Am I right?

You will have a hard time convincing UC fans that this is the problem even if you are. Developing average at best recruits into stud defensive players has been a big part of the secret sauce that has won UC so many games the last 15 years. We now watch some of our former 2* recruits on Sundays. The recruiting rankings went up in the Butch era and even higher now with CTT. The talent level hasn't come with it. You have to develop players, and the Wolfe, Hughes, Cole, Barwin type guys are nowhere to be found.
