Have heard very little on the details on our bowl--for instance---do we have a sponsor? Other than getting BYU on board and the announcement of the horrid time slot---there has been little news from the conference owned Miami Bowl. As its only a couple of months away, I would have thought we would have heard some of these things by now.

I think the sponsor of the "Miami Beach Bowl," being played in Miami, is the City of Miami Beach, IIRC. LOL if true.

You are correct.

Little Havana or Boca?
Tough call....not.

$600 million retractable dome stadium near S. Beach or $68 million stadium near the Golden Corral and Olive Garden?

Tough call?

Imagine if the matchup is something like Bowling Green vs Rice.

There might not be 5,000 people there in that case.

Few people are going to travel to this bowl and even if FIU or FAU were to go to this bowl, they're not going to bring many fans anyway.

Maybe we can rename this trash the "Prune Bowl" or the "Turd in the Punch Bowl".

If FIU or FAU were in a Bowl game, in their own backyard, the game would sell out a 30,000 seat stadium; if for nothing else, the novelty of it.

Those 2 don't sell out a 30k seat stadium when they play each other.

You are correct but missed part of it- Imagine if the match up is something like Bowling Green vs Rice ON DECEMBER 23.

This is the same challenge the Hawaii Bowl has on December 24.

Perhaps the executive director of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission should be named George Lindsey instead of George Linley. If you don't "get it", ask your parents.

Seriously however, if you haven't been to a bowl in years, any bowl looks good including something named the "Boca Bowl". This one, or that bowl in St Pete formerly known as the "magicJack" or "Beef OBrady" bowl would indeed be at the bottom of the preferred list however.

Judy, Judy, Judy. Thanks, Nick at Nite!

The problem with the Beef Bowl is the venue. Didn't Memphis play there during West's last year. QB Arkleton something? Just a 'dead' stadium for football. Still, it was cool seeing the Pirates get the win there last year. On to the Boca Bowl--presented by HoverRound.

With the exception of the NY6 and a few other major bowls, having bowl games in 30K seat stadiums like FAU should be ideal for most programs. It's beats looking at half empty NFL stadiums for 2 weeks, before the bowls anyone cares about starts.

+1. TBH, even schools which routinely fill 100,000-seat stadiums at home often struggle to sell tickets to bowl which are not considered "prestigious". FAU stadium seems about right for this bowl, IMO.

I just don't think people are into college football in south florida. If miami can't put 20k real fans in seats for lower tier games, what exactly is the hope for the next tier down? I think fau and fiu have the ability to grab good Florida talent, but I can't see them ever getting over 40k average attendance. Ucf was able to get 40k on random good games 15 years ago. Even got over 40k for idaho back then. FAU and FIU have some work ahead.

I don't see this or the Miami bowl making it very long. Does anyone in South Florida care about seeing any of the teams that could end up playing?

No, and most people in S Florida don't even care about the existing teams in S Florida. Miami gets 35K tops unless they're nationally relevant and FIU/FAU are lucky to draw 15K or more on a given night.

Boca Raton itself is a semi-sleepy haven for the wealthy people in Florida that don't want to go south into the "subpar" Miami outskirts. College football is roughly 50th on their list of things to care about on a given weekend.

Miami plays 7 home games with 3 being against FAMU, Ark. St and Cincy and 4 confernce games against Duke, UNC, FSU and someone else. You can probably see how a relatively small private school with a home stadium 45 minutes away might have trouble drawing for most games. Add in lots of rain and sun up until October and you really can't blame people for staying home and wathcing 15 games on a wide-screen high-def system on a given Saturday.

Beyond that, even the almighty NFL is dropping black-out restrictions after what, 50 years, because they just can't compete with home theatre and the NFL Red Zone (or whatever). It's great to have big crowds both for the environment and the schools pocket-book but the game goes on whether there are 10,000 or 100,000 there to see it.

To the point, we'll muster a crowd large enough to sell out a local 30k venue should it ever come to that. It's an event within easy reach.

This. People in south Florida have no interest in college football. The "El Boca Vista Bowl" won't even draw Frank Castanza.

Subpar Miami Outskirts? As compared to what; the high-end strip malls in and around Disney or the glamour of old Orlando? 03-lmfao
