So in a really odd turn of events... Disgraced Ex-Coach David Kelly comes to support George O'Leary amidst recent racial allegations.

Now for those of you who don't know who David Kelly is.... He's basically the Football Assistant Coach that UCFAA pointed at when the NCAA recruiting violations came up. He went from top recruiter and HCIW... to fired and disgraced from college football. It was pretty bad...

Props to Brandon for getting this interview scoop.

Even after UCF fired Kelly, he has no reason to lie...as he spent 2 different tenures with O'Leary (Ga Tech and UCF), and knows Dr Hitt could never hire him back.

I always liked Kelly. I don't hold a grudge at all for the sanctions. College football puts so much pressure to gain an edge. Teams that have 2 bad years in a row are looking new coaches. Pressure came from the AD too for that recruiting edge. SEC teams cheat everyday. They are obviously better at than ucf that leaves paper trails everywhere.

The simplest explanation is that Kelly is telling the truth and that the disgruntled ex-DC, who has found himself even lower on the coaching ladder after leaving UCF, made up the allegations.
I'm going to play devil's advocate though. IF Kelly is lying, what would be his motivation? Obviously it's not to get back to UCF. That bridge is burned, the footings destroyed, and a minefield laid to discourage anyone ever thinking about rebuilding it.
From Kelly's perspective though, the only good recommendation he has to get back to big time college football coaching is GOL. GOL very well respected in coaching circles and is one of the best recommendations you can have... as long as his career doesn't end tarnished and painted as a racist.

I see your point, but in that case, doesn't he just not say anything?

The other issue I see is that college/pro football coaches tend to be a fairly close knit fraternity, and when you have coached as long as GOL you have worked with a good number of assistants over the years that have moved on to other programs. Given how blatantly racist the comments that ex-DC claimed he made, it's difficult to believe that he's the only one that heard them, and past assistants have no reason to lie. Who knows, maybe more will come out of this, and I am by no means a GOL supporter, but right now it just doesn't seem to fit.

I agree, but it's the only thing I can come up with as motivation that he'd lie. Overall I think this is just more bad news for Ferraro and his claims.

Very little for David Kelly to gain here.

I don't necessarily love George, but for someone like Kelly to speak so highly of him after being forced out...that says something.
