2015 OLB commit Rayshawn Wilborn vs Grand Ledge
Tonight I got to see Rayshawn Wilborn and Lansing Sexton (2-0) take on Grand Ledge (1-1) on the road. Wilborn, who is listed at 6-4, 215 lbs., had 6 tackles for roughly 75 yards and 2 TDs, 3 tackles (including a TFL) and a pass breakup. Grand Ledge mostly ran away from Wilborn's side of the defense, so there weren't a lot of snaps for him to make an impact. He played a lot of nickelback when Grand Ledge went to spread formations and didn't give up a single pass on the night. Wilborn said he is hearing from Eastern and Western Michigan, but that he is fully committed to CMU, citing cornerback coach Archie Collins as a major influence in his recruitment. Wilborn has a good chance to move up to 4-star rating with the next edition of the Scout rankings.

I know most of you think recruiting sites are a crap shoot, but ESPN and Scout are more than a crap shoot, they fish for subscribers using a sketchy ratings system.

Rivals does not allow site publishers to rank players in football. They have regional and national annalists who attend position combines, college camps, they view video, and in some cases they check out the kids personally.

Most of their rankings are based on watching the kids in combines, where they can compare them to other DI prospects.

Scout allows site publishers to rank players, as you can see in this post I have pasted, where the publisher is thinking about bumping Rayshawn Welborn to a 4 star recruit. Welborn has three offers, all from the MI MAC schools. BeatWestern was labeled a "recruiting expert" by the Scout staff. Keep in mind he was covering CMU while living in Washington DC.

A month in a half ago 9 of CMU's 12 recruits (at the time) went from 2 star or no star recruits to 3 star recruits...........all in one day. Only a handful even had more than one offer.

This is fishing for subscribers. ESPN does it as well, even though they do virtually nothing to keep up with non-P5 recruits.

I also noticed how they magically had a lot of there class become 3 star players. Here is something to keep in mind. The MAC 2015 conference currently, and this is still early in the process, has 77 3 star players. The MAC 2014 conference finished with 53 3 star players. The MAC 2013 conference finished with 46 3 star players. This shows that there is a significant jump in total number of 3 star players in the MAC from 2014 to the current 2015 class. I think the stars are becoming inflated. I am now, more then ever, inclined to look at the total offers of the class than star rankings. I think this gives a better inclination of class strength.

Hit the nail on the head. It seems like anyone that plays football in HS is slapped as a "3-star recruit" these days. How can a guy be a 4-star recruit and only have a handful of mid-major offers? Does the star system go up to 10 now?
