RE: Ole Miss gives Memphis defense its props
It's been half a century since Old Mrs has been near relevent nationally, and they already had the most annoying fanbase in the country...they beat a mediocre Boise and 2 nothing football teams, and they are downright insufferable. I lothe their foolish "hotty toddy" chant where all those God fearing, Sunday morning church going folk get to curse and use God's name in vain in front of their small children all in the name of "school pride". Olé miss is the worst...smh

When Ole Miss beats at top 10 team then I'll consider them a top 10 team. Right now, in my opinion, they are still the team that lost in Starkville and were thumped at home to Missouri.

They are not a top 10 football team. They haven't played or beaten anyone that is even close to being ranked. Boise State is not the 'Boise State' of the past few years. The Rebels top 10 ranking shows the polls for what they are. That being said, they are a good team. From what I have seen, unless we get a serious pass rush, they will hit us with passes underneath and make our DB's tackle, an area where we have struggled. I don't think we can handle their speed. I hope I am wrong.

Oh, don't get me wrong. They are deeper and more talented than we are at this point, but they haven't done a thing to earn a top 10 ranking, other than not lose to Boise, Vandy or La. Lafayette.

That being said, I think Lynch is a better QB than Wallace and Fuente is a better coach than Freeze.

While I think that's true, I really wish we had our 2 starting D guys this week. The best player on our team is arguably Ifedi. We don't have enough "great" players to be missing a couple of our top ones. They are deep and VERY talented in spots. Hopefully, we take advantages of their miscues and beat them sillly.

Can you pass around what ever it is you two are smoking. To date Lynch has done nothing to come near what Wallace has done. Wallace is wild at times but he also produces big numbers more often than not. Lynch is only 2 Int behind Wallace right now. Wallace passes for almost 100 yard more per game and has almost twice as TDs. Being a homer is one things, but the game is not played in the twilight zone.

We'll see which one has a shot at playing on Sunday's and which one is named Bo Wallace. Lynch is going to be one of the best QB's to ever play here.

Don't see how you can say fuente is better than freeze at this point. Both are doing a good job though. I think ole miss could beat ucla. Their qb might not be as good, but their receivers are better. I think their defense is better too. I'm anxious to see how our young team performs in a rowdy sec atmosphere. Just another game where the tigers can earn some national respect.

The comment was Lynch IS better than Wallace not may be come better. As far as playing on Sunday's NOTHING that he has shown so far has indicated that he will be close to playing on Sundays. How much he may improve is not known. But he has NOT shown it yet, no where near close.

"There's little doubt that this Memphis team is better than past ones. But is it the toughest test Ole Miss will have faced so far? If so, it'll not be because of Memphis' defense."

Well, we DID hold them to their season low on offense.

We just don't have the depth we need to hang with Ole Prius for an entire game....yet.
Boise State hung close....then Ole Prius blew it open in the 4th quarter. They just wore them down.

Negative tiger

I'm not a negative tiger. I'm just not one of those who place unrealistic expectations on our player's heads...and then jump off the bandwagon when they don't perform as well as they were over expected to.
We are where we are right now. We are a good football team. We just came back from what amounted to a SMU like death sentence. Coach Fuente and his staff have done a good job of building back our numbers to where they should be football wise....but we have to remember...they were scrambling to find players..and probably had to cut some corners.
So even though we have over 80 players on the football field....not all 80 are necessarily D1 football talent level players. THAT will take a few more recruiting classes to fix.
Coach Fuente started way behind Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss. Ole Miss had no restrictions like we had....and they had a exciting product they could sell....a wide open offense...and as a bonus they signed some pretty damned good defensive football players too to go along with the offensive stars they signed.
A few more recruiting classes like they have been getting...and Ole Miss could possibly contend with Auburn and Alabama in the foreseeable future.
In the meantime....Memphis will have to get the same kind of players that TCU was getting when they rebuilt under Gary Patterson....2 & 3 star players and coach them up.
Many such players played admirable for us last night. You saw them on defense hang with Ole Prius until the 4th quarter.

Just because I am realistic does not make me a bad fan. We cannot hang with Ole Miss just yet. We ARE getting there...but that is still a little ways off. If pressed to give an estimate 3-4 years tops.
I will always love my Tigers....but I am not going to hamper them and pressure them with expectations that they won't be able to meet.
Like this year for instance. People say we can make a bowl game.
With what I have seen this year...THAT is an attainable goal I think at this point.
We won't face any more defenses like the one we saw last night. Not every team we face in the American Conference will be able to limit us from either running or passing the football like Ole Miss did.
I see at LEAST 6 wins if not more with the effort we have put in thus far.

Ole Miss gives Memphis defense its props
(09-26-2014 09:39 AM)Marc Mensa Wrote:  Who has Ole Miss beat this season? There has been an awful lot of scrutiny about who we are, but I think there has to be as much about a team that is ranked in the top 10, but has never shown the ability to play at that level. Thus far into this season, they have been impressive against an absolutely awful Vanderbilt squad and an almost equally bad Louisiana Lafayette team. They did have an impressive second half against a decent Boise team, but then, Boise isn't to be confused with UCLA. So as the Ole Miss beat writers try and surmise whether we are for real, it might also be time to ask the same of a program who is ranked in the top 10 based on nothing accomplished on the field.

Boise isn't decent at least in comparison to what they've been in the past. I live in the Boise area and their coach said Memphis gave them a better game.
