Obviously they just don't know how to give away freebies.

RE: Pay to play.
Freebies aren't a bad thing. Arkansas has used them even when they had 40,000 seats. In down periods they used them from time to time but they were targeted at youth.

When you haven't been playing football long enough that you have top division era alums that have reached retirement age, or your program is younger than your players, or you are basically rebranding your program (not speaking of mascot change but rather rebranding it as serious about the game), then freebies make a lot of sense. You want people to try it. Then maybe you can turn some of them into discount ticket buyers then convert some of them to full price, then some of them to season tickets, and some of that group to premium.

BUT THIS IS MICHIGAN.

It is a well established brand, it is a damaged brand but it is known. You don't turn to a gimmick just to keep your hard-earned and formerly well deserved sellout streak going.

You want to find a donor or two to buy tickets and give them to youth football programs or give them to area high schools who bring kids (potential future students) to campus for a campus tour, that's great. I'd defend that all day long.

But straight up anyone who shows freebies? Take your lumps and look to the future.

RE: Pay to play.
It was supposed to be a promotion available for students only .
That and it wasn't a ticket for a coke .
More like buy a coke with a chance to win tickets.
That is what they are saying at least.

The forty two straight years without a losing season streak was more important. Rich Rod broke that streak .
