Don't sleep on ECU's running game. Top 3 RBs all averging at least 9 yds per carry!

It's crazy how much people underestimate ECU. Only Pirate fans thought we would be this good and to be honest I'm not sure we even really knew we would be this prolific.

Respectfully, after yesterday's destruction on an epic scale of the UNC team, nobody, I repeat nobody is sleeping on ECU, whether it be their rushing or passing game. Congrats ECU on a win of historical proportions.

Allen looked like Barry Sanders yesterday. That guy has some amazing cutting ability and explosive burst. Cooper was good, but even last year I really thought this guy had more upside and could be more dangerous. He pretty perfect in this offense.
I know Carden has Heisman aspirations but I really hope the next 3 or 4 games he's on the bench the last 25 minutes watching blowouts avoiding injury and we can get Benkert some passes and prepped and ready.

If the score is 50, Pull Benkert in and allow him throw deep. we need to see if he can replace Shane.. Which I doubt lol shane is a freaking monster.
Bortles has nothing on Shane

Benkert is more athletic, and has a stronger arm. Just depends on what's going on up top.

...and who's calling plays for him. Ultimately a lot hinges on Riley IMO. I think we have guys that can replace him with Kirkpatrick and Nichols and keep this system in place and going, but if he leaves our OC becomes the bigger question mark than even who replaces Carden.
If Riley stays or we get similar play calling success in this system I doubt the next QB we replace him with misses much of a beat. Texas Tech always just rolled the next guy in with sucess or more. We did pretty much the same after NFL caliber Davis's first two years with Carden. The system works, I just hope we are commited to running it (which I do think we are under Ruff) and the replacement for Riley is capable. Nichols looks like the guy, and Kirkpatick has the experience to keep it going or be a major help. I feel pretty confident they can do a good job if needed.

Shane is a great player, and you should be happy to have him, but you need to pump your brakes just a little here buck-o. You're talking about the 3rd overall pick at the 2014 NFL Draft, Fiesta Bowl MVP, AAC Offensive Player of the Year Bortles. The same Bortles who beat two top 10 teams and had 5 fourth quarter comebacks in a single season, including at the 6th ranked team in the nation on their homecoming in front of a sold out crowd. Who, as we speak, is by far the most impressive rookie QB taken in the that draft class. The Bortles who, in one season, went from unknown to overshadowing a Heisman winning SEC QB and winning over every NFL analyst while playing in a run-first, time of possession oriented offense like UCF's.
It's a long season, and you've yet to take a single snap in AAC conference play. So, with all due respect to those of ECU fans who would know better than to make that comment and to your impressive victory you had this weekend, you might want to hold back on making absurd claims like the one you just made with so much football left to be played.

All's good bro. Personally I'd rather believe Carden is more of a system QB than some elite talent anyway. It would be nicer to just roll in the next guy into the system behind him like Texas Tech did with Kingsbury, Symones, Cumbie, Hodges, and Harrell.
It's not like any of them besides Kingsbury and Harrell were more than a 3rd string NFL talent, or were surrounded by tons of NFL talent. They had a pedestrian 10 NFL offensive picks in 10 years while Leach was there, and they still were parts of top 10 offenses in a P5 conference no less and shattered NCAA records.
Much more exciting to believe in a system and that it's works maximizing talent than we need to replenish top 3 NFL draft pick like Bortles to make a 1980's offensive system work like you guys have, or that you need a top 3 NFL stud to save the day and just to barely beat some of the awful teams you did last year as well.
We are basically Texas Tech east these days and even if Riley leaves Ruff is committed to and has a rolex of ten years worth of TT guys. Including a guy already on staff I expect to take over. Couple guys from the outside that were at ECU as well that went to Washington State with Leach that likely wouldn't mind coming back either as OC I imagine.

BTW here is Texas Tech's list of NFL draft picks while the Air Raid was cranking out top 5 offenses and NCAA records in a top P5 conference Leaches 10 years.
1st Crabtree WR
3rd Vasquez G
4th Gandy G
4th Francis WR
4th Rameriz G
5th Loper T
6th Kingsbury QB
6th Filani WR
7th Symons QB
7th Whitley C
Here are our NFL picks in the same period
1st Johnson RB
4th Garrard QB
4th Wimper T
5th Allison WR
5th Drew TE
7th Rimph T
7th Henry RB
Heck we had 7. You guys had 9. As you can see Texas Tech barely had more than either of us yet it's not like you'd confuse either of our offense with Texas Tech's during those years.
Clearly it's an offense that WORKS to maximize talent, even with fairly marginal NFL talent or QB's they competed with teams like Texas and Oklahoma and put up record numbers.

Again, you have yet to play a down in conference play so I'd be very careful about deriding us for 'barely' beating some 'awful' teams, since you'll be playing those same 'awful' teams and like us, you'll have to be lucky to make it through unscathed.
You've had a good season, so far. I feel like some of the ECU fans on this messageboard are forgetting the last two words of that statement though.

BTW here is the guy I expect to take over if Riley does leave already on staff so don't think we are getting away from the Air Raid or the ECU version of it....
Quote:Dave Nichols
37 years old
Texas Tech grad/ Class 99
2000-01 assisted with QB's and WR's under Leach
2002 Passing game coordinator at Cisco Junior College (led Conf in passing and finished second in total offense)
2003-05 back with Texas Tech/ Leach as Offensive line assistant
2006 Baylor assistant
2007-2011 Arizona assistant under Tech grad Sonny Dykes who was OC under Leach at Texas Tech
2012-2014 ECU assistant under Lincoln Riley another Texas Tech guy
He's got a better resume than Riley even had when we hired him and some experience calling plays at a Junior College with some success. I doubt we miss much of a beat if he steps in personally after coaching under Leach, Dykes and Riley. As many Texas Tech guys that have fanned out and had success running offenses between Dykes, Riley, Holgerson, Briles, Kingsbury, etc the chances are pretty good he can do it IMO.

Well you have been playing ACC cream puffs. That number should go down when you start playing tougher in conference games. Lol
