My take on the Belt OOC so far...
The only teams that clearly have not lived up to consensus preseason expectations so far are Troy and UL. So that basically means 9 of the 11 teams are at or above where they were expected to be.
The only non-conference games where we were clearly not as competitive as anticipated were by the two aforementioned teams.
It sucks to not have much to show as far as W/L record but overall I don't think we're going to get killed as a conference in objective computer rankings going through the year. A lot will depend on how the conference races play out. I bet CUSA has more conference wins by teams with FCS losses than us.....the MAC, too (sorry, Trojans). There's also the possibility that none of our teams with non-conference G5 losses will finish in the top places.
Honestly, I don't think the picture is as bad as it seems...

This week end games were 1-6 last I saw but the games were more competitive at least. For the sake of their own team and the conference, I hope Troy fans stay on the AD to correct their problem and protect their history. A good AD's job is to solve problems, not to kick cans down the road.

ULL's loss to Tech and troy's loss to UAB hurt the most. Even if we did get stAte over Utah State, the lack of other real marquee wins have led to the league's struggles.

ULM has been the most successful considering a P5 win and winning record.
Georgia Southern has the two close losses that were also impressive .
Looks to be a mostly inconsistent year winning will depend on which teams show up.

Troy's loss to ABC hurt pretty bad too.

UL's thumping by tech looks worse after tech gets beat by northwestern state. UL looks slow in the secondary and their Qb is having a hard time completing a pass.

Depends on where the Cajuns finish in conference. My guess is that Hud will pull it together and do well in conference and that won't help our cause.
If we can get Texas State to beat Tulsa and if we can beat Navy maybe we can call it a decent year OOC.

Troy's loss to ABC hurt pretty bad too.
But it was as easy as 1-2-3

You know, I'd argue that Arkansas State's win was better. Wake may be P5, but they stink to High Heaven, and they also have a 20 point loss to a Utah State team that Arkansas State just beat.
The only other real difference between the two is that ULM has already gotten a home game with Idaho, and still has yet to play 2 money games in A&M and Kentucky. AState has only SBC games remaining.

I know you'd argue that but, given a choice, you know you'd rather have a P5 win no matter the team.

That's hard to say entirely. We're talking close to 10 years potentially between the last time we beat what became a Bowl team OOC in the regular season.
Wake's not making any bowl. Utah State's favored to make the MWC Title game. That's probably as big of a win as any mediocre P5 could bring.
Obviously, if it was a name P5, this wouldn't be a debate.

I disagree completely. Give me a win over the higher rated team, regardless of conference affiliation.

I think average Joe or someone not as smart as an average Joe, like a tv commentator, is going to be more impressed with the Wake win even though I think USU is a better team (and have the box score to back that up).
