You still have it wrong... He should have said...they are much better than we.

Yes. You are correct. But that would require a certain attachment to reality. Not a commodity commonly found in Chapel Hill.

They don't care honestly. I think Tim Scott cares, he's just cocky.

Keep it classy UNC!

The sports writer who quoted it wrote immediately below that to end the article, " The scoreboard would suggest otherwise." I thought that was well played.

I consider myself somewhat of a neutral observer to the UNC-ECU rivalry thing. That said, I talked to my State fan mother in law and her State fan friends about it yesterday. They told me the history of how UNC (and State, though less so) looked down on ECU and had a beneath-me attitude about ECU. I guess i just don't get it. It is not 1975 or even '85 anymore. This is 2014. ECU sells out 50,000 just about every game and is really, really good this year. Even in their 5 or 6 loss season they are really competitve, more or less on par with the average ACC opponent. I guess I kind of understand the past-minded view of fans who are 50-plus and still view ECU as a lesser type of opponent, but younger fans who don't remember ECU being anythibg besides a consistent winner should know better. The coaches sure as heck should know better. And the players, whose college football memories need only look back at last year's beatdown or even the past ten years of ECU should know this is a dead serious opponent. Why, then, are they acting like ECU is some upstart who has never been good, let alone really talented and senior-laden? Why would a freshman who was born in, what, 1996, act like ECU is a SoCon program far below UNC's caliber when he has never lived through that era? Is it that they really believe that Power Five makes them better automatically? It just baffles me.

(This coming from an App State grad/fan and lifelong Florida State fan (and, no, I don't approve of any of J. Winston's shenanigans or, possibly, violent behavior). I don't hate UNC or State, don't love them, either. I admire ECU, though it would be nice to see the chip on the shoulder toned down just a little.)

The reason? Because it's the "Carolina Way". Simply translated, it's an arrogant belief (which is not rooted in reality and thickly clad with denial) that anyone other than themselves are inferior in every way conceivable and that they are truly as pure as the new fallen snow. They feel they are the entitled chosen ones. Kind of sounds like the Nazi's, doesn't it? You'll have to pardon our "chip". It's a by-product of over 100 years of having to deal with The Evil Empire.

No they suck a cheating, badly. Cheating their way to 7-5 and worse season, still no conference title since 1980. UNC's new motto, Doing less with more since 1776.

I loathe it when people do not know how to win with grace, so I am hesitant to even post this quote. I mainly do so, to show folks what ECU has been dealing with for decades when it comes to UNC. They really do in their hearts believe they are better than the ECU community . To lose in the way UNC did and for one of their players to still be this arrogant says it all.

That dude must have been one of those UNC players who didn't attend classes, particularly math classes. He clearly needs remedial training so that he understands 70 is a much higher number than 41.

i can promise you that if we ever play Texas or Texas A&M againand beat them as soundly as you beat the Tarholes, the Orangebloods and/or the Maroonies would be spouting off at the mouth, too. And it wouldn't matter to them if we were in a power conference and/or the number one team in the country. They would still disrespect us.

Knowing how to lose and accept defeat graciously is a virtue the so-called elite have forgotten about.

As an FSU fan, you should know that it's not just a North Carolina problem.

At the risk of sounding naïve, what context are you referring to?

I do know my grandfather, who lived in Florida from the age of three to until he passed away, telling me stories of how the state legislature essentially forced Florida to play Florida State in the 60's, and that to this day there is a certain degree of looking down at FSU by UF. Not saying that's the same dynamic as ECU-UNC today, but it basically was in the early years of the series. (BTW, Florida's pompous attitude towards FSU is one thing that helped turned my mom's side of the family into an FSU-supporting family... well, the main thing was my mom and aunt's graduation from FSU, but I digress.)

Maybe you're suggesting that is FSU's attitude towards UCF/USF/other schools in the state. You honestly would know what fans within Florida borders say better than I do. I hope that's not what their attitude is; FSU was once in UCF and USF's shoes. And I know that FSU is scheduled soon for its second home-and-home series with USF within a ten year period, something that the Gators are rarely willing to do even with formerly longtime rival Miami. I'll admit a lot of Noles fans are idiots who cheered when Willie Meggs decided not to pursue charges against Winston "because now we could focus on football," (which made me want to throw up a little) but I hope most of them respect UCF and USF for the quality programs they've developed. 04-cheers

We must be pretty good recruiters with these "senior laden" teams every year.
