I visited there a few years ago for an unrelated function, and nothing is there. I can't imagine any talented recruit wanting to play and go to school there.
UAB has Birmingham to offer, and there's much more to do here.
That's Troy State's core (fatal) problem. The level of success they can achieve will forever be capped by their location. Starkville, MS is bad (and, tbh, if Miss St wasn't already in the SEC when the "BCS era" started they would be capped, too...it still remains to be seen if they can ever compete for an SEC title), but there's just no getting around the fact of Pike County. It's why Troy State has never been invited to CUSA and why they are still not near the top of the list for getting out of the Sunbelt at the next chance.

The only way that Troy gets an invite into CUSA is if UAB is no longer in CUSA. ~142miles
The only way that USA gets an invite into CUSA is if USM is no longer in CUSA. ~95 miles
That's even assuming, like you said, that either USA or Troy are top on the list to move up. They're too close to the recruiting areas of schools already established in this conference.

Trust me - or ask others on this board who know - Troy's proximity to UAB or any other CUSA school is NOT why they have never been close to a CUSA invitation. There was discussion about them before the first CUSA realignment (Louisville, Cincy, etc.), but after an exploratory trip to their campus by CUSA officials and some school presidents their name has not come up again.

I remember when that happened. Plane flight to Birmingham followed by a long drive to Troy. Once they arrived there was nothing to do and back then Troy's version of haute cuisine was Sonic

True. But 5 minutes from waking up locked in a barn and never being heard from again.

If it's a beach you're looking for, then USA is a lot closer, and a the city's a lot nicer.

I'm sorry but I do not believe this to be the case. UAB has the potential to have an athletic program that is head and shoulders above Troy but that isn't the case right now. I bleed green and gold but UAB Athletics has a long way to go and a lot of things that needs to be accomplished before I put them head and shoulders above Troy.

You didn't quote the part of Matt's post that explains why we are the better program.

Troy tries to get into CUSA.
UAB doesn't try to get into SunBelt.
In the world of logic, that should mean something.

Football program specifically? Sure, Troy has it (not for long).
Athletic Program as a whole? Troy doesn't even come close.

Agreed. And just to be clear, my opinion was solely based on football. That was what the thread was about, so that is what I thought I was replying to.
