RE: Not Another Liberty Thread!!! Yep....
There is absolutely no denying that Liberty is a fit in terms of atmosphere, facilities, budget, location, etc. We have discussed it thoroughly. There isn't a school out there that offers more as our 12th member in all of the athletics related areas. Missouri State and JMU are close.

The institutional issues would not even be a problem as far as recruiting goes given the leanings of most recruits in the south. Member administrations are just going to continue to struggle with the reputation that follows Liberty.

I respectfully, but emphatically disagree. Liberty is nowhere near being a good fit for the Sun Belt Conference. They should not even be mentioned in the conversation. Missouri State, JMU, Jax State and EKU are the ones that should be considered way ahead of LU

Why are they not a fit?

Why wasn't this thread cleared out when it became the same discussion as last years?

RE: Not Another Liberty Thread!!! Yep....
Liberty fit geographically and they spread the SB footprint into Virginia and provide Appalachian State with a travel partner, but
Liberty fits the Sun Belt about like Denver did and I for one watched and hoped for the day Denver exited the conference. With the number of potential institutions out there...Liberty should be way down the list. My rankings...NMSU in all sports, Missouri State, EKU, UMass (football only), Jacksonville State, then Liberty and JMU has had its chances...so they are off my list.

Liberty and Denver's situation's are not similar. Denver was a poor fit geographically and they competed in a lot of sports we don't play while also not playing football.

I don't get it. Read my post. I know about the "cultural" issue and said as much. I just want him to tell me the other reasons that I did not address because there are none.

You are correct. Sorry, but I got caught up in this redundant conversation again. I'm just not sold on the Liberty-SBC relationship. They have a nice school, facilities, etc., but there are too many other schools to consider. Don't know why I get so worked up about this subject because I don't believe they have a snowball's chance of becoming a member.

It's all good just wanted to note for everyone this was the exact convo. Last year, either way I believe the most likely schools to join up are EKU or Missouri state, I think they have a lot more in common with the schools in the sun belt and if liberty were to be picked up they would have been by now

For what it's worth most rational Liberty fans don't think it's going to happen either. The best bet Liberty has is to petition the NCAA to go independent in football and keep all the other sports in the Big South. Scheduling could become difficult, but if FBS school stop playing FCS schools I think we could work out some home and home games with MAC, C-USA and Sun Belt schools. Who knows at this point, but I know Liberty isn't building those facilities to stay in the Big South.

This isn't a plug for LU. I just keep reading about these types of orgs trying to whitewash all universities and it's disturbing. I think the SBC is a great conference with fine schools and a footprint that would allow LU alum to travel to most games. I admit I sometimes tune into SBC games just to see how App and a couple others are doing. The SBC isn't perfect neither is LU but it would be a great home for LU if that day ever came. If LU had to become like a state ran university to be accepted into a FBS conference and lose it's identity I would rather LU stay FCS. I don't think it would come down to that but I'm just sick of seeing religion under attack. I'm not even very religious and this sort of stuff bothers me. Like most things on this board this is just my personal opinion.
