Can we relegate the last place team to either the sunbelt or the sMAC?

Except their basketball and football kind of suck and would be a PR hit on the conference and you aren't really expanding the footprint considering you already have Houston and SMU. I'll give you the baseball success but until that becomes a revenue and major tv sport for college sports then I can't see how they would be a player in the lottery for AAC inclusion.

if BYU is added the smart move would be to stay at 12 and trim the fat.

No one, the AAC doesn't need a 14th, as you very well know.

LOL...

Colorado State has repeatedly said they're NOT leaving their front range partners.

As for Rice...Wha??? Yeah, let's chop our Houston market with a team that has no sustained success in the last 20 years.

I agree with BJ, but for kicks and giggles, my hot-list looks like this:
1-Southern Mississippi

That's it.

Ok, I’ll play along. If BYU joins add Army (both FB only) for the NYC media market.

If the AAC couldn’t get Army to bite than I would suggest to fill the spot with a program not current in CUSA. This is not meant as a slight or to ruffle anyone’s feathers it’s just IMO the AAC shouldn’t do anything at this point to feed the perception that the American is just a warmed over version of CUSA with Temple, Navy and UConn thrown in, they need to do things to differentiate themselves from the rest of the G5.

Mid size with 15K students, decent academics inside the top 200 USNWR rankings, semi Chicago market (65 miles away), strong football, maybe NIU if Army said no.

NIU couldn't get people to show up to games if they paid them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Northe...tball_team Undefeated at the end of a season 17k people show up. Their stadium only holds 23k

RE: Say BYU is 13th team in the American, so who is the 14th team?
The only teams I'd really consider adding besides BYU are UTEP, UMass, and Army for various reasons.

-UTEP, yeah they suck but they have one of the nicest football stadiums in the G5 and have put as many as 45-47k in it for a SEASON playing in CUSA. There are about 3 or 4 G5 schools capable of this if that. The potential and foundation is there, and all it takes is one coach.

What if Coker went to UTEP instead of UTSA? What happens when Coker retires. You people are to short sighted for my taste. UTEP also have a nice basketball arena and upwards of 10k support as a program most of these other decent programs can't touch. Again a foundation.

Basically I don't see a better all around fanbase out there or foundation with facilites in both major sports that reasonably in our footprint. It would bridge the gap to BYU as well if they came.

-UMass, Lot to be said for having a stateflagship from a relevant state in the fold. Whipple should have them competitive and they bring solid basketball

-Army football only for the TV move. That's it. I don't like them but they'd put some money in our pockets and fans in our seats.

If we can't get them I say do nothing.

Say what you want, but the AAC has the best shot at making our mark nationally in basketball and that should be considered heavily at this point. You mainly just need one or two really good football programs to get the Access bowl and upset major teams. In fact having a deep middle of average teams of the conference could hinder that and as far as we all G5 are behind the P5 as a conference it's not even a race there.

In basketball you are measured more on NCAA bids and need the depth depth. The only real basketball program we could get with football foundation 10k+ in the BB arena is UTEP.

Why do you guys love talking about expansion/realignment during the regular season?

Old Dominion. Big university in a big and growing metro area with no pro sports and a ton of HS football talent. And they have fan support with a sellout every game and a huge season ticket waitlist. It's a no brainer. Fits right in with the geographic core of the conference with Navy, Temple, and ECU close by and Cincy and UConn not an unreasonable distance.

As much as I'd like Army and the road trip to West Point, they're a bottom feeder and it wouldn't be seen as strengthening the conference. I'd be ok with some scheduling arrangement with them and including them in our bowl deal.

I'm cool with ODU. They would take off in the AAC with additional resources.
