after we lose to sflorida, they will be calling for his head, he was a dc at nd and assistant head coach.
i for one was in favor of mark whipple, he already is making umass more competitive.
we can't afford another bad hire, we used to average 38- 41k every game under edsall.,03-banghead

Whipple was the hire to make but wasn't there some politics behind why he wasn't hired?

If Whipple had been hired, UConn fans would have ridden the AD and the administration out on a rail.

And rightfully so. Whipple will do some good things for UMass, he's been there before. It doesn't mean he was the best guy for us. I would prefer to play the long game with Diaco.

No doubt that someday he will move on, but as everyone can see he is engaged in his own learning curve as a Head Coach and most reasonable people are OK with that.

Completely agree. UCONN needed to go in a different direction to win back its fan-base after the last coaching hire. I'd rather take a chance on a young, energetic, "hungry" first-time head coach.

So far I'm very satisfied with the results. I see progress with every game. They seem to be making adjustments, and I was impressed with quite a few things I saw during the Boise game.

And a terrible DC at UC back when Brian Kelly was UC's head coach.

He was so terrible that Coach Kelly had Diaco coach for him at 3 schools: Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame. In 2012 Diaco won the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach, and was runner-up for the same award in 2011.

http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-...12aaf.html

Maybe Diaco gets a little....enthusiastic at times, but UConn needed a little bit of rah rah boosterism at the top after the debacle of the post-Edsall era.

As a coordinator not a leader I hope you're right but I do see a nervous razzle d man at the helm.

Bryant plays in the same league as Central Connecticut State and the Beat Stony Brook. UConn barely beat Stony Brook that's why I'm losing confidence .

You need to take a step off the ledge. This is a total rebuild job from a first year first time head coach. What exactly do you not like?

The energy is better than last year. The play calling is more creative and unexpected than last year. The team has improved every single week unlike last year. And guess what UConn didn't lose to an FCS team unlike last year.

The line sucks again...just like last year. If you were expecting a 180 off the bat with the talent level available, it is your own fault that you are let down.

I'd love to hear what Diaco has done to not impress you. He's a young, charismatic guy bringing tons of energy to a program that was on life support during PP and GDL years. Plus tonight, a win gets his team back to bowl eligibility.

What doesn't impress me is that he swaps out QBs mid drive even while the drive is going well.

He hasn't done that since week 1 when both Cochran and Whitmer were available.

I don't like the mentality behind it. He says there's no #1 starter for any position. It's important to a player's confidence to have a margin for error on their plays. When your coach is willing to take you out when you're doing your job well it sends a weird message.

Where has he said that other than QB when both Whitmer and Cochran were available? He said he would be rotating players in during the first three games to give more players game reps prior to conference play, but I have never heard/read him say there's no #1 starter for any position.

First, both USF & UConn are down right now, no doubt. But come on, don't act like Memphis is some juggernaut. Hell, we beat you by 5 TD's last year.

Bob Diaco Wrote:"I have coached as a coordinator on defense for the last half-dozen years and maybe have had only had a total five key starters of all those players. We will probably have three key starters on offense and three or four key starters on defense...that's it.

It's not quite no #1 starter for anything but it's pretty close and I just don't like it. Doesn't inspire confidence in my opinion.

I respect your opinion, but to me all this key starter/starter/etc is just a different way to describe his rotations and what level of involvement his players can expect.

Yeah it would be easy to beat a team with third string players playing because first and second string weren't mentally ready and left at campus

I hope UCONN will let us have this one.

Tampa Football is struggling right now.

I feel like a quote from the Wire applies to tonight's game: "nodoby wins, one side just loses slower."
