I don't think we need a big time coach... Losing your first game to new FBS move-ups isn't gonna help either.

Bump for update in OP.
BTW - Marshall is having their best year since the Bob Pruett/Randy Moss days. They can hold 38K. Why aren't they averaging 30K this year?

Lack of fans? WV dominates that state and the school itself isn't really THAT big. They have less than 10,000 undergraduates. The county Marshall is in is the only state where Marshall fans outnumber WVU fans, according to unofficial numbers.
If they implemented a bring your gun/bow policy, they'd probably need to expand though.

you newbie's from CUSA need to leave Marshall in the rearview...seriously
as far as attendance....I look at it and the entire G5 is pretty much even. Yean, the AAC is #1 but not by a lot and we are all WAY under the P5's. It is what it is.

It is an eye sore. Patience, conference mates. We have legislative approval from the State of North Carolina for an addition and renovation. I have not heard of a time table, but the approval was recently (within the past year) extended.
Several years ago, prior to the end zone expansion, a poll was distributed to Pirate Club members to gauge the acceptance of suites to be constructed in the end zone. That idea was scrapped and we ended up with 7,000 seats in the end zone that is now our student section.
There have been no renderings, that I'm aware of, but I have heard that the new expansion will include suites and press along the south side; as well as meeting rooms, academic support rooms, etc. It is unknown whether an upper deck above that will be included, but I'm feel confident that whatever is constructed there will be designed to accommodate a future upper deck above it.
We'll take our time and get it right. For now, our double-wide in the sky will have to do.
Approval was granted by the legislature in 2012 for the addition of 8,000 seats and a new press box to be built in 2016. That was in the literature sent out with the season tickets that year but didn't elaborate any further. I've seen where some have said that we don't need the additional 8,000 seats but I look at it from the prospective of having attended ECU games since 1992 when we were not filling 35,000 seats completely to today where are generally in the 95% capacity range of 50,000. If we go the 58,000 or so we will eventually have the demand to put asses in those seats. Attendance has grown over those 22 years that I've been going to games and it us my opinion that the demand will be there in the future to need those additional 8,000 seats. I have heard that renovating the swim team's facilities are planned as well so that may put the South side of the stadium back a little beyond 2016 but it will come.
From what I've been told, something will start within the next two years. Clarification on "within two years": Not the start of being built, but the fundraising for what is being built. An upper deck was not part of that. Press box and possibly club seating.
I ve been hearing 60k for ECU capacity all year now. That would truly set us apart and put us above 1/3 to half of the cartel 5
First step would be pressbox and suites...bringing cap. to around 54K. Anything above that is very long range at this point.
With SRO?...We could cram in close to 57 with the next addition.

I am excited because our new AD Harlan has the vision to start the process of getting a OCS at USF. Even a mild turnaround for our program will get us back closer to 40K.
At least this year we will have one big attendance game. UCF is coming to Tampa, so it should be our highest attended game.

B/f Memphis left CUSA, they were derived for their attendance..some (not all) Marshall posters were the biggest detractors...thinking attendance would go up when Memphis left.

It looked full, but the announced attendance was only 39,554. I was hoping we'd get closer to a sell out with it being Saturday evening, homecoming, and a solid opponent.

It didn't look full on TV. Not even close as there were some sections that were sparsely filled. With that said, this Pirate isn't complaining about UCF's attendance in any way. You guys are doing just fine.

The number was accurate. We had at least 5k empty seats. The upper visitor section was near empty and the east side had patchy areas with nobody in the seats. Student overflow has been helping to be honest. There was a lot of tickets online 4 hours before the game.

It really is unfortunate that the press-box is placed where it is, from a television standpoint. It'd be much better served facing the opposite direction as those are the GKC seats and they're usually filled every game.

The UConn game for us was awful. Lots of empty seats. Why in the world would people spend all that money to buy tickets and not even show up??? Or leave early for that matter??? That's like leaving your vacation early. Who in the Hell does that? Really wish some ECU fans could get virtual slaps to the face.

I didn't show to the UCONN game. I live three hours away and only have the vacation time to go to one Thursday night game. I have family in Greenville so I game my tickets away but not every season ticket holder is that lucky. Complain about me all you want but Thursday night games are not good for attendance.

I don't know the slightest about criteria for expansion, but why would you expand to 60k if you cannot average 50k in attendance? What is a realistic goal for attendance? 100%? 90%?
