RE: Rockets Trivia Question
Pretty quiet here, so maybe it was a bad question. FWIW, I pulled this out of last year's online media guide.

Good try, but I think that would be impossible to know unless you looked in a record book.

RE: Rockets Trivia Question
Yep, according to the media guide it was zero. And why (assuming the media guide is accurate) was most interesting to me: apparently each of the starters played 40 minutes. I saw that and thought "really"? Don't know much about that team (game was played a few years before I was born) so I don't know how common that was for that team, so maybe it wasn't unusual for that squad.
Though I just noticed that the total number of field goals they credited Toledo with doesn't seem to match the individual number of field goals for each player. Martin had 8, Maher had 1, Spice had 2 as did Padzior, and Ray didn't have any. That's 13, but the total they credited UT with was 14. Ray was credited with 7 points but his line in the box score reads 0 field goals and 5-6 from the line, so I assume that's the mistake.
Here's a link if you're really interested. You'll have to page down to the pages numbered 124-125 to find this. There aren't over 100 pages at this link: on the website the media guide is divided into several sections. This section starts at page 106.

Maybe I'll work that into the thread later on).
The even more obscure thing from UT history I saw in the New York Times, dated January 27, 1939. The Times ran a story about the Rockets, who were going to play Long Island University at Madison Square Garden. Story mentioned that the Rockets had lost only once up to that point, to Ball State on the road. Final score was 42-41 and apparently the official scorer failed to record a made free throw by the Rockets, accounting for the 1-point difference and keeping the game from going into overtime.
That game isn't a big deal now, but can you imagine what the reaction would be on this board (or any board if it happened to another team) if that happened today? To say there'd be a meltdown would be an understatement.
I'd post a link but if you're not a subscriber you can't get free access to the full article (it costs $3.95 to read the whole article).

Cool tidbit. Wonder how much the rest of the team played that whole season.

RE: Rockets Trivia Question
How about this.
What former UT player is an assistant coach in the NBA?

The only thing I can add to the names on that list is that Jim Ray's wife was my 2nd grade teacher at Olney elementary - the same year they got married. Of course, the only reason I knew that is because Ray went to the same high school as my mother.
Carry on....

That'd be like counting an extra point that was clearly missed...or something crazy like that.

Well, of course we know something like that could never happen.

Man, I never would have gotten that one. I remember Dennis Mathis, but not Monte. Guess I wasn't paying attention then.
