Just for the record, Marshall opens up as 10 pt favorites at Akron... Apparently, Vegas thinks the same thing as a lot of Herd fans: Akron will not be a cakewalk. Terry Bowden and Chuck Amato with have the team ready.

I think we will win, but it won't be decided until the second half and possibly, the 4th quarter..

But football, it is, and there are 8 C-USA games on tap this week with 4 of those being against fellow G5 conference members. All games are on Saturday, this week.

There are clearly some challenges, but C-USA football is proving to be up to the task. So, here we go:

ESPN schedule of all C-USA games for week 4:
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/scoreboard...ekNumber=4

Saturday, September 20, 2014

Old Dominion @ Rice; 12:00 p.m. ET; Fox Sports NETMarshall @ Akron; 2:00 ET; ESPN3
Nicholls State @ North Texas; 3:30 PM ET; Sinclair Network
Louisville @ FIU; 3:30 PM ET; Fox Sports 1
FAU @ Wyoming; 4:00 PM ET; Mountain West Network
Northwestern State @ LaTech; 7:00 PM ET
Appalachian State @ Southern Miss; 7:00 PM ET; Atlantic Sports Network
Middle Tennessee @ Memphis; 7:00 ET; ESPN3
Future Conference Mate
Charlotte @ Elon; 7:00 ET

Let's go get 'em C-USA!

Games in Red interest me. CAN ODU head west and take down a CUSA veteran team. Has Rice just faced tough competition or are they not good?

App St and USM, just interesting from a ECU perspecticve. Can USM get it done versus a SBC team?

MTSU and Memphis seem to be about dead even--I think I took Memphis in my line on the AACbbs. I couldn't pick either by more than a TD though...

We need to prove our consistency. Marshall has far superior talent to Akron, and I am not sure anyone would disagree. Historically, we struggle on away games with low attendance. Akron had a bit over 9,000 fans attend their home opening game. This is not attendance smack, but Marshall has trouble in lowly attended games. We absolutely need to prove we are the same team regardless of where we play or how many are watching.

RE: Wk 4: Lines in the Sand
Old Dominion @ Rice-Is this ODU's first CUSA game?, Rice by 28
Marshall @ Akron-Has the makings of a trap game but Marshall survives by 10
Nicholls State @ North Texas;-St. Nicholls loses
Louisville @ FIU; 3:30 PM ET-You do not want BP mad, UofL by a lot
FAU @ Wyoming; 4:00 PM ET-Wyoming is a tough place to play, Cowboys by 17
Northwestern State @ LaTech-La Tech by a lot over Northwestern II
Appalachian State @ Southern Miss-UCSA>Sun Belt
Middle Tennessee @ Memphis-Only natural for MTSU to have a let down after they won their Super Bowl this past week

Future Conference Mate
Charlotte @ Elon-have no clue but will go with CUSA In this one

Even though WKU's defense is on a bye, they are still getting scored on by someone...

RE: Wk 4: Lines in the Sand
Only 13 voters, thus far, but its early yet, and there are no Thursday night games. I'll count all votes up to kick off on Saturday at noon.

At this moment, our voters are trending as follows:

Rice over ODU (12 votes to 1)
Marshall over Akron (13-0)
North Texas over Nicholls State (13-0)
Louisville over FIU (13-0)
FAU over Wyoming (7-6). Basically a push here.
LaTech over Northwestern State (13-0)
Southern Miss over Appalachian St (10-3)
Memphis over Middle Tennessee (7-6) Another push
Charlotte over Elon (9-2)

If you guys have other questions or suggestions on how this thread is structured, just let me know.

For a game with a line that has moved from 13.5 down to 7, this is somewhat suprising. Not that I disagree with it, but someone is betting up ODU to make the line move like this.....

RE: Wk 4: Lines in the Sand
Old Dominion @ Rice. Rice is binding so they pull it out at home. 36-34.
Marshall @ Akron. Marshall zips through the Akron defense and empties their pouches. 48-19
Nicholls State @ North Texas. The mean Green is mad and you don't want someone who is mean mad too. 45-10
Louisville @ FIU. Golden Panthers have played a good schedule. Unfortunately they don't come to your place unless they know they can win. maybe the cards won't knick off both halves. 55-20 (anyone outside of UAB get that?)
FAU @ Wyoming. Interesting game here. This Cowboy team is dangerous. They have guns. I've been there. This is a tough road trip. Cowboys 36-20.
Northwestern State @ LaTech. These in state matchups with FCS teams can be dangerous. For about a quarter. 60-20
Appalachian State @ Southern Miss. If you lose this game I will drive over there and kick your coach in the ass. USM 31-30.
Middle Tennessee @ Memphis. Air raid in Memphis. Hopefully you won't be cussed out by (some) of their nasty fans. 45-30.

Old Dominion @ Rice - Should know a lot more about Rice after this game.
Marshall @ Akron
Nicholls State @ North Texas
Louisville @ FIU
FAU @ Wyoming - FAU can win, but that is a tough place to play.
Northwestern State @ La Tech
Appalachian State @ Southern Miss
Middle Tennessee @ Memphis - This is the best looking Memphis team in a long time. Hope I'm wrong about this one.

C-USA has three wins it should definitely get, and three toss-up games. FIU is the only team that would be a big upset. Need to get at least four, and any more would be even better.

RE: Wk 4: Lines in the Sand
Nasty Bunch is in sole possession of first place this week, after an amazing 7 out of 9 correct picks, in this wild, C-USA week. His performance, and the lack of strong second place performances, allowed him to also take over sole possession of first place in the Cumulative race,as well.

Now for the results: Not one of our finer weeks, as a conference.

Old Dominion - 45 @ Rice - 42: I don't know that we can call this an upset, but not many --other than ODU faithful -- saw this coming.
Marshall - 48 @ Akron - 17; Marshall wins big on the road, despite a mediocre performance, in my opinion.
Nicholls State - 3 @ North Texas - 77; The Mean Green laid a "likin" on NSU.
Louisville -34 @ FIU -3; A Disastrous second quarter, doomed the Panthers.
FAU -19 @ Wyoming -20; Owls lose a close one on the road in last ditch effort by Cowboys
Northwestern State - 30 @ LaTech - 27; Bulldogs suffer 4th Quarter meltdown.
Appalachian State - 20 @ Southern Miss - 21; Golden Eagles hold on to win
Middle Tennessee -17 @ Memphis - 36; Blue Raiders Fall hard to in-state rival.
Charlotte -13 @ Elon - 20; Niners lose a nail biter in 4th.

I must have been smoking something. Correct and fixed. Marshall 48 - Akron 17, with the last 14 by Akron scored in the final quarter on the reserves. Sorry, about that.
