this is one thing I don't like about Campbell - he's too nice. After every loss, he always says how proud he is of the team, how hard they played, etc., etc. NO! There have been losses where they haven't played hard, where they've given up. And he never calls out a player - Coach K has done it a few times, and the guys seem to respond. MC never does. He only praises the players.

And during the UC game, not once did I see any of the coaches get in any of the players faces or try and pump them up or get after them to play better or anything (I was sitting behind the bench, so I could see almost everything on the sideline). In fact, after the first TD UC got in the first :45 seconds - MC was the first one to greet the D when they were running back to the sideline - and he was giving them high fives! WHY? They just gave up a TD in only a couple plays! When they were down 34-0, I didn't see any urgency or passion or anything on the sideline - just a lot of blank faces and a lot of high fives and pats on the back.

The most upset I saw Campbell was not when UT was down 20-0, or 27-0, or 34-0, or 41-7 -- it was when he wanted a PI called on the drive with about 5 minutes left. He was letting the refs have it. How about getting after your own team when they are down 20-0, 27-0, or 34-0?

that is below what UT has faced.

So BGSUcks is the standard that we measure ourselves by? Ashamed!
What happened to aspirations of being Boise St? Play anybody anywhere and compete!
Agree! Even to talk about other MAC schools is funny. If we aspire we need to view our selves on a different plain; it should be above 3/4 of the big 1zero not the mac.
By the way the last time we won the mac what happened. We got drilled by a team that was not even supposed to be able to play with us.
We need to be taking these OCC games seriously. Players will and do not come here because we beat up on a bunch of "directional schools". Enough already with the other mac schools! Sorry for jumping of the deep end, probably the coffee.04-chairshot03-banghead03-hissyfit

Though I'm anything but a Zero State fan, I've always loved the quote by Woody Hayes - "Success is what you do with what you've got"

Pinkel rarely had anything close to the talent that Stutz, Beckman, and Campbell have had. If the MAC is a tough sell now it was even worse in the 90's when the big boys had more scholarships and the MAC never got a TV appearance. The newer coaches we've had could recruit alright, but what happens when the kids show up on campus? Once they're there, you have to actually make them better and be a team. You can't just will your "I was all-state in high school" players to keep improving because they're having a good time, you have to motivate them play above their ability and make them want to run through a damn wall for you. What have I seen this year? We come out of the blocks unbearably slow, fail to make adjustments, and don't seem to be getting guys to dig deeper (except for Hunt, who seems to have a motor all his own). None of this "golly, gee whiz" garbage.

Agreed, but think the Rockets have a good shot(there is not a QB in the MAC better than the last two UT has faced) at the MACC and a Bowl.

Btw, last time the Rockets won the MACC -UT got drilled in the MCB because Bruce busted up his hand in the MAC title game, Scooter injured his leg and they really weren't able to go against UConn. UT did not have adequate back-ups to replace either one.

Just watched the segment on Nick Saban on 60 minutes. It emphasized Nick's approach to preparation. Wished Campbell watched it and learned something. Something is missing with this team.

I'm not advocating firing anyone...I just miss the days of the Rockets being better than a decent MAC team.

But if the basketball Rockets are ever down 34-0 to either Duke or Oregon, I only ask that the Lord have mercy on both mine and Coach K's souls.

RE: Fire Coach Campbell!
Talking to some past players and a common theme seems to occur...MC is not hard enough on the players. We need to demand more out of the individuals. If you are in the game to catch the ball as a receiver...catch the ball. If you intercept the ball...don't fumble the dang thing. Kickoff returner...hold on to the ball.
I agree with the posts that recommend that the coaches are too easy on these kids. MC might be a players coach but that does not always get the job done. We have been in two games that could have made a statement for this team and we did not answer the bell. Coaching staff and players alike need to step it up. This was a year that we should be seeing results from all of the Top MAC Recruiting classes of recent years and it is not there. If we do not win the MACC then it is time to take a look at where we go from here. Go Rockets!

There does seem to be a surprising level of slop in pretty much every aspect of the game. There is a hellacious amount of tightening up to be done by Saturday. BSU may have gotten humiliated by Indiana State, but it's going to be the conference opener for both of us, so a lot is on the line. We cannot afford to drop games we should win.

When he was first hired, I was sort of excited that we got a new, young, and energizing coach. 3 years later and I'm not very excited anymore. Teams are going to continue to light up our weak and depleted defense. Cincy QB Gunner Kiel threw for 6 TDs in his college debut against us, that's the MOST all time by any college QB making his debut as the starter. He also made it look really damn easy.

Guys, I don't know about you or if you were even at the game, but I was and my hopes for Toledo Rocket football in the future have been greatly diminished. I was ashamed and embarrassed to be wearing midnight blue and gold in the sea of white on Friday. Toledo needs to take some notes from Cincinnati...because they're doing it right, whatever that is. I came away very impressed with the city of Cincinnati, the spirited fans, and the UC campus/ surrounding area. It's such an awesome college town and city in general.

That's why it was so frustrating. Cincy scored in 44 seconds to start the game with little resistance. The resistance didn't pick up until the third quarter. By then, it was too late because the defense had given up 41 points in the first half.

I'm not on board with yelling, "Fire Campbell!" I support him and the team. But I just want them to prove something. For all the hype the coaches give every year, I just want the team to come close to living up to the hype. That's not too much to ask. Wanting the team to compete for the division title is not too much to ask.

Cincinnati alum/fan here. Thanks for the kind words about the city, the fans and our program. A lot of change has taken place down here the past 10-15 years to get where we are today. The university has invested a lot of money into our campus, facilities, surrounding area and athletic department.

You guys brought a decent number of fans to the game. I remarked to a friend of mine that you guys more fans to Cincinnati than so-called power conference schools like Pitt and Rutgers (even though Pitt is only about 4.5 hours away). There were some Toledo fans sitting nearby my group and they were very respectful. One turned around and wished me well and told me he would be cheering for us the rest of the year.

I wish the Rockets well and hopefully you can turn your season around.

I agree. Very little chance that NIU beats Cincinatti or Missouri either. They dont have the offense to keep up with either team. We are going to be fine, but we better come out guns blazing against Iowa State. I am sick and tired of deferring. We need to take the ball on first possesion and open it up right away. We need to stop this getting ransacked in the first quarter and trying to dig out crap. It has been going on for years and it needs to stop.

We've got to have at least 1 stud player at safety, preferably at FS and a burner...and taller than 5-9.

We've done "OK" at times with shorter corners. Some have been great at the HS level, but have had slight builds and when they get to this level their bodies cannot hold up to the beatin'. Des Morrow was a great example of a taller corner that was effective.
