Who is Bill Brown?
I know Brown donated a significant amount of money for the Football Center. Was he a former player, or just an alum? What business is he in?

Not everyone can own an NFL franchise. They're very expensive, come with a lot of pressure and visibility, and they're not always profitable unless you bought on 50 years ago.

The alternative is to call the shots for a college team. T Boone Pickens at Oklahoma St. is an obvious example.

Every school has a handful of these kinds of influential alums who lurk behind the scenes. In our case influential enough to influence hirings and firings.

Bill Brown was on the sidelines at today's game. Fleck called him, "My biggest supporter." One has to wonder, did Brown have a strong influence on Cubit's firing and on Fleck's hiring. And if it's true that the budget is spent through 2016, has someone offered to foot the bill----like Bill Brown? You have to be either a huge fan, or a Jerry Jones ego to follow this team to Idaho.

I don't have a problem with having a few wealthy alums with influence on the program, I'm just curious if that's the case with Brown.

:cheers:GO BRONCOS. Bill was a player I believe in the late 40's or early 50's. Went into real estate in Chicago and did very well. Has been a Gary fund member forever. He is a frequent visitor to games and had been for at least the past 25 years for sure. When we used to have home game coaches luncheons he was almost always there.

And he may be no Tom Cole or Don Seeley Jr., but the Bill Brown Center wasn't cheap and nor were the resent renovations. How were those paid for?

John Offerdahl had a big hand in fund raising the original effort. The renovations weren't all him either. He has always been around the program and reported by all to be a nice man.

Thanks Mr.

A lot of big donations these days are estates that have been willed to the university, perhaps that's in his plans. Don't know, just thinking out loud.

Point was, I think his old "biggest backer" isn't in his court anymore, so it would make sense that Bill is his biggest now.

No offense, but you live 2000 miles away, how would you possibly know if Harold's Kid has pulled support for Fleck?

Oh, I'm sure no offense was intended. But in these modern days, logistics aren't much of an issue when it comes to information.

For example. I worked a gig at a major testing operation in New Jersey, you know, LSAT, ESL, GMAT, etc.

I did this gig FROM MY HOUSE IN TUCSON last winter, live meeting, conference calls, VPN access, etc. It was as good as being there. In fact, I did a whole project and only traveled there three times in six months.

It's really incredible what this here technology can do these days, know what I mean Vern? 03-drunk

Honestly, I'm shocked, all this time I thought that whole "you live far away so you can't know" deal was a schtick by you guys. Now I know you're just a moron.

Yes, ever since Morse Code was invented communications have been simpler, but before you can know something far far away you have to know someone with a reason to tell you that info, that's what I think you don't have, although you'll claim to have a mole within the program who can't wait to funnel dirt to a small donor in Denver.

First it's I'm too far away to know, now you're lecturing ME on the fact that Morse Code has been around for centuries?!?!

Don't be jealous, it's not becomming.

Jeeze dude, use your head. It's right there in the Fire Fleck thread. One poster says that he thinks that things have changed, that Flecks biggest backer is done being his biggest backer. Then, hours later, another comes in there and lowers the boom for all to see. Connect the dots. I didn't say a word.

There didn't have to be any private "funneling" of info to me, but just to make you squirm, I'll tell you that I had heard similar type stories for months now, unsolicited.

Yeah, if it's in the Fire Fleck thread it's got to be true, not to mention those clandestine messages you get from moles within the athletic department. 03-lmfao03-lmfao

You think that for a second I would share with YOU any kind of source or info that I get about this stuff? Poke and prod all that you want, you're proven not to be trustworthy.

Your mocking makes no difference to me, which is why I didn't run with any of this info back when it was told to me months ago, and I still don't care to be honest.

But, back on topic, it makes sense that Bill Brown is the biggest backer now. Again, connect the dots.

Maybe you and Waldo should get a room and share all your "insider TMZ" Fleck news.

How do you know I'm not WheresWaldo (just one of the many Multi IDers here) and I argue with myself to gain your trust, and then I concoct a crazy story to see if you'll bite. Think about it........03-shhhh

Could be. You're that nutty on these web boards, always have been. I'm not "sharing" anything here. I was watching this today. WW42 didn't name any names btw. Another guy did that. I connected the dots.

But that alone doesn't explain the other unsolicited people outside this board saying the same thing, only with more details. Most don't post here.
