I think we have a good chance of pulling the game off. Assuming we aren't shell shocked early and get behind, I think it will be a war till the 4th quarter.

I'm worried about our O-line being able to block. If USC plays man coverage, it could be a long night for us.

I agree, Shane has to get the ball out of his hands quickly. Although I do feel pretty good because our offense is founded upon the principle of getting the ball out of the QB's hands in a hurry and SC secondary looks weak.

How is USC's D-line? Serious question, as I don't know.

I guarantee you that Carolina wins! 02-13-banana

Just depends if its East or South.

However I bet its a lower scoring game than most expect.

East Carolina 27
South Carolina 21

How is USC's D-line? Serious question, as I don't know.

USC switched this offseason to a 3-4, but the still largely are using 4-3 personnel which means that they've got an undersized nose tackle and guys that are used to playing 4-3 DT are now playing 3-4 DE which isn't the quickest of transitions. That is why Spurrier said something along the lines of "How'd everyone like that new 3-4 defense?" in his postgame last week.

The D-Line is very talented, and they can rush the passer with ease. Right now they are just in a feeling out period getting used to the new scheme at game speed. A&M was lucky, in my opinion, that they got 'em when they did. They'll be better next week.

To answer the OP's question, USCe fans are not overlooking this game like a joke, but they aren't by any means crazy worried. They certainly respect our program like they always have but they recognize - like we do - that they are a class above. But, the on the field products this year are closer than they've been in over a decade.

Thanks man! Not my photo actually, I found it on google images and just added the typeface on it...one of the coolest DFS pics I've seen IMO. Yeah...patience (better) pay off on that one...has anything else been said about that? I know it was in the Master Plan and what not

Older USC fans respect ECU. We beat them several times in the 90's and early 2000's even in Columbia multiple times. Post Spurrier it's been a lot harder to beat them obviously.

We've got a good chance but we need the defense to step up. Our offense will bring it and I believe we will score some points. The question is can our defense hold them any.

I say upset, ECU 45 USC 35

RE: ECU fans: (USCjr)
Many scared fans are saying South Carlina will be "out for revenge" since they got so badly beaten by A&M. While that may be true, That game showed me ECU has an honest chance because we run a similar offense and USC obviously has some holes to plug on their defense. I know we played against a bad FCS team but I think the quality of our defense is good enough to keep us in the game against SC. Our skill players of offense are good. My only concern and that's a big concern is our O-line. NC Central had more success against our O-line than I would like to have seen, so comparing them to SC D-line is a frightening prospect. This game lives and dies with the success of our O-line and whether they can gel and pick up their game. Either way Playing USC, Va. Tech and UNC's D-lines for 3 games in a row will certainly prepare us for the conference slate.

combined with that change from a 4-3 to a 3-4....they have a bunch of new guys in the secondary...some young inexperienced corners and whatnot......you combine all of that together with an A&M o-line that is one of the best in the country and a QB who was spot on all game long and you got the result you got Thursday night.

That's what I'm worried about Peter. Our O-line isn't one of the best in the country. Aren't they fairly new/young...or am I thinking about a different area of the team? aTm had a lot of success down the field. To get down the field, your O-line has to block longer than usual...even with bad DBs.

Need to utilize something that will neutralize the disparity up front. Quick passes for rhythm and some read option to keep the line honest. We need consistent gains to take control of the tempo.

We have a shot, but Ruff hasn't pulled off the big upset yet. Maybe he's due.

I think this is a game that Coach Ruff and his staff will be able to show the result of their preparation and their vision since day 1. For the first time, a top 25 opponent with all of this current staff's players. This team that we've got this season is essentially the vision of this coaching staff playing out.

Ruff has always and forever will have the great relationships and the respect of all NCAA D1 coaches, but this weekend will be his true chance to prove what HIS (and completely his) program can do. Not half his, half Skips. His.

They are new together in terms of playing as a group for the first time......but Harris made his 13th start at left tackle, Hudson is a 5th year senior at center, back up at center is Struyk who has playing experience, right guard was Roberson who played tackle last year so he has playing experience.....the 2 new comers to start were the JUCO transfers....Levingston at right tackle and McKinney at left guard.....the others who rotated in at 2nd string have all been in the system for at least a season or two...guys like Boyd and Hinson. not saying they are near what A&M has but at least we have a little experience and I think they are an athletic group ...they just need reps together.

So...I'm cautiously optimistic. Keep in mind the Gamecocks need this victory...because after us they have Georgia and could start the season 0-3. This is also the start of an important stretch for ECU. With the Gamecocks, then VaTech, and then UNC all in the month of September.

I think our potent offense can exploit a questionable SC defense. I don't expect this to be a particularly high scoring game. I'm giving it to ECU 27-24.

Coach Logan said Friday that Lincoln Riley's mouth should have started watering Thursday if he was watching, because South Carolina was playing defense the same way North Carolina was last year.

I am cautiously optimistic, but we'll have to play a perfect game.
