Most Points Scored in 45 Years
It looks like you would have to go back almost 45 years, to the 69-19 shelling of Louisville in 1969, to find a game when the Tigers scored more points than yesterday.

It is the most lopsided win in 64 years, since the home opener against Union University (64-0).

It was also the first time Memphis held a team scoreless in 14 years (28-0 over UL Monroe).

How many of those prior games were played against teams that were winless in the previous season?

That was probably the 2005 season, when we lost to UCF. They were winless the season before.

Now, did you really want to know that, or are you just being Ms. Debbie Downer?

I remember that game like yesterday. It was my senior year. Finished 8-2, losing only to Archie Manning's Ole Miss and UT-Knoxville. In the latter part of the season, we were playing fine football. No bowl invitation, of course, thanks in part to the Liberty Bowl ignoring us. It was the beginning of my awareness and hatred for the greed, corruption and hypocrisy components of college athletics.

How did we manage to drop almost 70 on them?

Ole Spook had another fine team that year, finishing with 328 vs 191 points over Florida State, Miami, Southern Miss, etc.. Louisville was the last game and we were desperately trying to impress bowl scouts who most likely already had their minds set against "Memphis State".

Three years later, our fanbase, which has always been so "blessed" with an abundance of experts, managed to get Spook replaced, in spite of the his reaching and winning the Pasadena Bowl in '72 (the only other time the Blue & Gray ever played in Rose Bowl Stadium).

The Tigers lead the nation in Fewest Points Allowed (0) on Defense (sure we are tied with several other teams that pitched first week shut outs.)

The Tigers are second in the nation on Points Scored (63). Only Texas State scored more points (65) in their first game of the season.

RE: Tigers' Most Points Scored in 45 Years
I was watching ESPN online. Both teams were lining up for the opening kickoff and the camera zoomed in on a UofM player doing that jump thing they do to warm up; and then the camera showed the Peay player. I noticed his knees got nearer to his chin than our receiver's.

That was the last thing I noticed they did better than us. 04-cheers
