My takeaways
I know everyone is going to have their own thoughts, feel free to add them here.

The good:
-I know Austin Peay is terrible but it was nice to see the team take care of business, start to finish.

-The defense never seemed to relent and kept up the pressure. Seems to be back to where they were before being eliminated from bowl contention last year. Hopefully Bobby McCain will be making plays all year.

-Jarvis Cooper. Was waiting to see him and he didn't disappoint. I know it was garbage time against AP and he fumbled, but watching him run confirmed what many of us hoped. He looks to be the most talented back already, in my opinion. Don't want to make too much of it but I'm excited for his career. The run game looked great in general, including Paxton.

-Passing game looks to be a bit better than last year.

-New punter looks to be pretty good. Should have another nice year from the special teams. Would like to see more Craig and less Malone in the return game.

The bad:
-Fumbles, fumbles, fumbles. Seemed like everyone was putting the ball on the ground. We got all the bounces and AP isn't nearly good enough to make us pay even if they did recover. Most of our future opponents are. Hopefully just the rain and we get a drought from here on out.

-Passing game. Seemed like the passing game has taken a small step forward but I saw a lot of the same flaws as last year. Would have liked to see more open wrs. We really need more athletic wrs.

-Ifedi. Please don't be seriously hurt.

Hard to really know what to take from this game but these are my thoughts. Enjoyed watching us beat down an opponent, even if they're terrible. I'm excited for the season and think we go bowling. Go Tigers!

Hard to really find true things to discuss since it was such a mismatch. Agree we did take some steps forwarding passing game but timing is still not there a lot of times. The thrown back to TE where the TE crossed the field against the flow of the play. The throw was such that he had to stop and wait on the ball to get there. Still having touch problems on the deep ball.

1st string defense looking dominating but again we are talking about APSU. Then there were af few big runs given up.

Think we really cannot take a lot out of this game due to mismaktch and next week we cannot get too down if the tables are turned.

Week three will be the true measuring mark. Of course losing Ifedi is going to hurt.

Amen. And there's something to be said, AP or not, about the mental state of being on it in the season opener.

I have vivid memories not that long ago of another rainy game against UTM.

Also, free Pirtles!

Hey, take this for what it's worth, but I've been told, and have heard on the radio as well, that Austin Pea is a very poor team in that league where as UT Martin is one of the better teams in the OVC. Like, they win it every year or something.

Darrell Dickey had a REALLY good offensive plan tonight. I just hope the fumbles were caused by the rain. Solid crowd considering the weather.

Didn't have to hear it on radio or be told about it to know we played a very very poor team tonight. Which makes it kind few hard to really evaluate our performance. 63 against any team has to be acknowledged. But not going to read too much into it. Just as i will not be prepared to jump off bridge if those numbers get reversed next weekend. We are definitely better than last year. How much better we will not know. We did go sort of vanilla in the fourth quarter.

RE: My takeaways
A couple of concerns about PL was that he threw a few passes off his back foot, and that some passes were thrown late, but overall, a good showing. A huge improvement in that we did not make a lot of mistakes that cost us, unlike a few years ago when that was a normal occurrence. We looked like a well-coached team tonight, very impressive.

Only 6 penalties for the first game of the year is awesome. You would expect more of the false starts because of our offense. That shows something.

Actually I think the quick pace cuts down on that. IMO the long counts and audibles are what causes the most false starts. Those big guys can't stay in a stance that long.

Still 6 penalties is awesome although one of them temporarily cost us a touchdown..

My annual rant:

Fans...you paid your money and of course you CAN do what you want in terms of getting to your seat, getting up for whatever reason blah blah blah.

But- considering there are huge numbers of natural breaks in a game- after a score, after a punt etc... maybe you could wait until then to walk slowly in front of us, looking down at your I-phone while you scratch your oversize a$$ in front of us- while arriving after kickoff and of course lingering in the stairwell risking everyone else's lives as they try to get around you when they do it during one of the many natural breaks in the game but you are so narcissistic you continue to rub your belly while looking at your phone waving at some other drunken cretin who thinks the epitome of football culture is to yell whooooooo!!! constantly and complain about the defense when Austin Peay gets a rare first down in the third quarter.

You make the jean short wearing outside concourse marlboro smokers even while their cigarette butts clutter the stadium and their smoke reaches everyone else seem like high society.

playing the worst college in fcs can make any game plan look good. same old stuff from what i could see.

if we see the same dropped balls, interceptions, predictable play and lynch trying to run when in trouble, UCLA will beat our brains in. Esp if we lose Ifedi because he got hurt when he should have been on the sideline resting. austin peay folks...austin peay.
