I'm not dissatisfied with what we have for now, but we should put a stadium on the campus master plan. If nothing else, doing that will keep local government honest in rent negotiations, etc.

New stadium didn't help Houston AT ALL!

Ignorance is bliss.

If you are suggesting giving up, you can kiss my ass.

I am suggesting there may be better ways to spend money than a new staduim. If it does not result in getting us into the P5 its a waste of money.

There is no way to know. The chicken or the egg. Would Lville have made it all the way to the ACC if they still played at the Fairgrounds.

Build it and they will come?

Louisville made the full commitment to football long before we did.

That is what I was implying. It hurt to watch that game in that stadium in that conference last night.

they played in a minor league baseball stadium, they had no choice but to do something different... If we would have made a commitment to football when Louisville did there would be no complaining about the Liberty Bowl Stadium...we would have joined the BE when Louisville did, and we would be 10 years ahead of where we are now(at least)

RE: The New On-Campus Stadiums Tulane & Houston Are Building
Facilities issues began long before our last AD, although he played politics just like previous ADs & presidents have. Facilities issues began when our university, then Memphis State College, agreed to play in Crump Stadium for FB & the Cook Convention Center for big BB games rather than plan for OC facilities. This took pressure off university officials to fight for funding. This also enabled the city to obtain ongoing rental support & possibly even construction funding for these city projects they would not have received otherwise. Then the Mid-South Coliseum became our university's home for BB under the same pretense, then Memphis Memorial Stadium (Liberty Bowl) to attract UTK & OM games (but with our university paying the month to month bill), then FedEXForum to attract the Grizzlies. There's a pattern there that's easy to see. The city always wants our university's rent to provide the month to month & year to year cash flow & have even diverted state bond support that could have gone directly to the university for construction of OC facilities. The city has financed its facilities needs on the back of our university since the 1930s & state politicians are always eager to avoid sending money to our university if it can keep local politicians or UTK pacified. So while our past admin has played to part, the role was established long before.

Exactly.

Fortunately the marriage of basketball with city facilities prospered. Not just the first time, but every time.

Unfortunately the marriage of football with city facilities failed.
Not just the first time, but every time.
