Sun Belt 1st weekend
Ga. State 38 Abilene Christian 37
NMSU 28 Cal Poly 10
ULM 17 Wake Forest 10
N.C. State 24 Ga. Southern 23
Michigan 52 App. St. 14
UAB 48 Troy 10

Still to play:
Idaho vs. Florida
Ark. St. vs. Montana St.
Texas St. vs. Ark-Pine Bluff
Louisiana vs. Southern

We need 3 wins tonight (I am thinking Idaho is a likely loss)

So far biggest surprise is how Troy got handled. Ga. Southern was on the verge of a very big win but faded in the last quarter.

RE: Sun Belt 1st weekend
stAte will have the tallest task against the Non-BCS opponents, I think they will win though obviously. Man, if GaSo would have finished off NC State, we would be looking very solid after one week aside from the Troy disappointment.

So, who was the bigger surprise, Troy getting hammered or Ga. St. taking care of business?

I think Troy getting hammered was the bigger surprise. I expected Troy to win.

Troy, Hands down, not even close. Ga State is 2 years in the belt, they should be able to beat a team like Abilene. It was a good win for them to build on, but I thought troy would win, and definitely didn't think they would get routed.

Abilene was picked 8th in the Southland, it was a surprise they struggled, but Troy takes the cake this weekend.

GS gets the pleasant surprise award.

Call me a homer but I'm going to go with Troy.

It was Troy. No question about it.

Last year it was USA losing to Southern Utah at home. We managed to turn it around the next week. Maybe Troy can too.

Where it's sitting now, I think 2 wins tonight is pretty close to guaranteed. I'll be interested to see how stAte does with a good FCS squad like that (and how they handle the heat/humidity of the deep south in August).

What we saw this weekend was GaSt and UAb climb out of the Bottom 10 poll, but Troy fall into it. They will have familiar company due to F_U still being there.

FIU is losing to Bethune-Cookman. How FIU went from being a pretty good team a few years ago to absolute train wreck is kind of crazy. Add this to the fact that they forbade the Miami Herald's beat writer from covering the program and it makes their whole situation bizarre. I'm just glad they are doing it in CUSA.

RE: Sun Belt 1st weekend
The plus side is that the Sun Belt is off to a very good start to go undefeated against FCS competition (the biggest concern was really Georgia State, and the way that stAte was losing players, got a little spooky for me), which is a good sign.

That's why I haven't written off Troy just yet. Also, WKU rebounded after getting smoked to SIU a few years ago. It's possible, either they will rebound in the next week or 2, or it will spiral out of control.

Louisiana Monroe 17 - Wake Forest 10
New Mexico State 28 - Cal Poly 10
Georgia State 38 - Abilene Christian 37
Texas State 65 - Arkansas Pine Bluff 0
Louisiana Lafayette 45 - Southern 6
Arkansas State 37 - Montana State 10

NC State 24 - Georgia Southern 23

Idaho - Florida postponed.

Overall 6-3 in week 1, with question marks as to if the Idaho game will get played.

I would be willing to bet Idaho will just take the money but who knows? If the game is not going to the played tonight then I could see it being played tomorrow.

FIU fished getting beat by Bethune-Cookman. They had a last second fieldgoal attempt with a bad snap.

FIU stays in the bottom 10.
