Our defense only really made 2 mistakes, although big ones, and it had alot to do with the fact that they were on the field nearly the entire 1st half. If Holman starts we add at least 14-17 points in the 1st half and win going away.
UCF had the better athletes on the field.
Which is why it's frustrating. Time to beat Missouri.
While UCF's Offense put UCF's D in bad position for much of the game...UCF's D was pretty bad on 1st down...which put PSU in easy 2nd/3rd and short, which kept most of their drives alive.
Here's what UCF's D gave up on first downs in just the first half:
1st down plays by PSU in the First Half:
8 yd pass (1st and 15)
9 yd pass
44 yd pass
9 yd pass
9 yd pass
4 yd pass

This.
after a series or 2 the Penn State coaching staff saw enough of Dinovo to know he doesn't have the arm talent to be a threat in the air. Dinovo couldn't even complete a simple out
Not so much worried about passing defense as I am about rushing defense and red zone defense. Opposing QBs can get all the yards they want as long as they don't score. By midway through the 3rd Qtr (before Holman came in the game), Penn State had about 200 yards of passing offense and just 13 points to show for it.
DiNovo's arm strength look pathetically weak. No zip on the ball. UCF found their QB with this loss. Holman has the talent and size to pick up where Bortles left off. I really can't believe DiNovo started over Holman after seeing how strong is arm is. UCF most probably would have won the game if Holman started. The defense was tired from being on the field too much. Missouri will be the real test for Holman.
This is probably the worst thing thing that could happen for the AAC. UCF loses a winnable OOC game to Penn State and likely straightened itself out moving forward. They are still a threat to run the conference table IMO.
I truly believe our lack of RB effectiveness definitely sits on DiNovo's terrible play. Not to mention, It sucks not having Stanback in.
We'll be fine. If I had to take ONE win, either Penn State or Mizzou, I'd take Mizzou in a heartbeat. This may serve as a springboard for Holman to lead us to a Big 12 Inv- I mean...to an Access Bowl invite

If we can give voters a reason to forget our loss, it'll turn into what the South Carolina loss was last year.
It wasn't "UCF lost a game"
It was "UCF nearly beat South Carolina by a field goal"
Bury it behind enough wins, by the end of the season it will be a boon not a bane.

A loss at the beginning of the season matters a lot less than a loss at the end of the season.
